Glad to see you're cancer free and back on your feet and doing well!
I will share with you my experience and how I changed because of it.
I am no stranger to health issues either and had "This is The Big One, Elizabeth! 2 yrs ago. Completely changed my outlook life. Some of my friends/family think I am nuts, but this strategy works for me. We are always talk about saving for retirement and planning etc and while I still have a diverse retirement and college strategy setup , I changed the way I think and spend.
I don't wait to drink that special bottle of wine for that special occasion , or wear my favorite watch, or that expensive bottle of cologne, or my good suit...........etc because you never know when you can take your last breath and no sense in saving things for a special occasion because everyday above ground is a special occasion.
I try to counteract every negative in my family's life with a positive, whether it be a good gesture or a gift. When my wife (divorced too, so know how that feels) has a bad day I will make dinner or go out to eat, bad news at the doctor let's go to the mall or go get your hair and nails done. House problems and issues (big ones), time for a vacation, after it as fixed of course. Kids had a bad day at school, take em to the park to play...............etc You get my point.
Oh and I started my detailing business while I was home for a few months resting because I always wanted to do something in the automotive world and this was the thing I loved the most.
So far this philosophy works for me and while it does increase spending and take some more time out of your day it is well worth it to me! Hell you can't take it with you, so enjoy it!
