  • Please don't wash my new toyota!

    Folks...
I will be picking up a brand new RAV4 tomorrow. Just came off the truck yesterday (odometer said "1"). Hopefully the trip on the car carrier was a gentle one . Anyhoo - During the test drive I asked the dealer for a strange request - PLEASE DO NOT WASH THE CAR. He was kinda taken aback, but he was happy to finally get a sale out of me, and he said OK. I've read a few stories on here about dealer prep and how they swirl the hell out of brand new paint, so I told 'em "hands off" - except for the complimentary tank of gas of course .
So this Labor Day weekend, I know a silver Toyota that's gonna get its first official wash!

Congrats, and nice move making them keep their hands off...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Yeah, best to say no wash. I had to promise that on the after sale survey, I would said the car was clean when I got it.

Nice move! Washing accessories and techniques are important for not inflicting swirls/scratches. Clear coats are delicate and most of the time swirls are stubborn! We talk to customers with new cars several times a day and this is always a subject I explain.

officially got the vehicle today...and YES it was NOT washed. Interior was "unharmed" as well . Only thing...what slimy substance do they put on the tires? Vaseline?
They were pretty adamant about me giving them an "excellent" rating when/if Toyota does a survey of my "experience" at the dealership. Why wouldn't it be excellent...I told them not to wash the car, and they didn't.

                    Congrats on the new ride!

I got a new truck this summer and my dealer thought I was a bit odd for not wanting them to wash it. When I went to pick it up it was off to the back and side of the normal pickup area. He said they didn't want people to see they where delivering a new truck that dirty. lol

Looking forward to seeing some clean pictures of your Toyota.

I don't know and I'm afraid to ask!
Good job on getting it your way, other than having to deal with that nasty stuff.

I'm almost scared to special order a new car, just because the smallest defect would set me off.

I got very, very lucky with my GLI, it was on the lot for probably a few weeks. I could tell it was never washed, the finish was perfectly swirl free, consistent fine dirt/dust and even had some white shipping wrap on the back edge of the hood, but best of all, no bird bombs!
I took it home and washed/clayed/waxed the next day.
