Yes, it works, and unless you drive over a roller coaster of a road, the unit's built in dampening keeps the needle from skipping.

The aftermarket units sat on the Transmission Hump. The Chrysler factory units mounted under the Dashboard, and had to be mated with the 'Hi-Way' 'Hi-Fi' Radio that acted as the 'Pre-Amp' for the 'Record Player.' Also, you won't find a schematic, or ANY reference to the aftermarket unit in the 'Factory shop Manual', but you will find the 'Factory Unit' detailed in the Manual

By first glance I thought it was an air conditioning unit.

I don't remember them looking this fancy.
