  • Wicked Headache After Detail??

So I detailed mom's car on Friday for her, mind you all by hand. I don't have a DA (yet) and I woked on it from 9:30-3:30 no breaks. In the home stretch, I developed the worst headache I've ever had. Now I'm not one to ever get a headache so I know something was up.

I don't know if it was from all the different smells of the UC, UP, UW, clay stuff, or what. Maybe from constantly bending up and down. It was wicked, couldn't see straight, couldn't even put a finger on my forehead without it exploding.

Wen't home, took Tylenol, and hopped right in bed and was out. Ha!

    Anyone else ever have this?

You're not the only one, I used to not be able to WASH, let alone detail more than one car in a day, because I would bend at the waste and I'm a little taller, so all the up and down would give me a huge headache. Some things that helped was remembering to crouch from the legs rather than bend at the back, get yourself a creeper or something to sit on and move around when doing the lower panels, that helps cut down on it. Also, do not forget to keep drinking a lot of water, dehydration can bring on headaches as well. I started doing this and it cut back on the issues a lot, at least for me.

Yeah, I'll have to look into one. You know, the whole time I was doing it, I had maybe a mouthful of water....bet you that was a big factor in it! Didn't think of that!

At least for me, staying hydrated is important. Drinking plenty of water. Again for me, a grand slam headache might indicate another problem worth a visit to a healthcare professional.

You can also look into things like the kneelers, knee pads, rolling seats, etc to try and keep shuffling at the same level.

As weird as this may sound, I get a headache when I dont detail something.

You have to take a break! You probably had low blood sugar. I always break every 2 hrs (OSHA LAW)

As everyone has said>>>Take a break!

You are NOT on any super time constraint, sit down, have a soda, beer, water, go outside and watch the grass grow, grap a handfull of peanuts..you get the idea.

Working by hand is burning a hellofa lot more calories than you think, you're using different muscles then usual, etc.

It is NOT unusual for folks working by hand to split the process in to 2 (or more) days.

+1 Drink plenty of water and have something to eat. Take care of the machine and it will take care of you. I was once told that when doing tasks that I am not doing on a regular basis, water becomes more important than ever. As a general rule of thumb - take your weight and divide that number by 2 and that should be how many OZ's of water you should intake on a daily basis. Working by hand ( not knowing if you were in the sun or the temp, you may need to drink more. Drink in small quantities more often. Hope you are good to go at this point. Best wishes
