  • 3/17/12 show and more!

hey guys, so on sat my car club im in held our annual car show INSIDE our mall and had a great turn out. also had a pinstriper come (came last year as well) and was offering pinstriping on vehicles during the show at a VERY GOOD price. Well, i gave in and had him do some striping on my pickup. Heres some pics, i had a small hood striping done and a tailgate "tramp stamp" as some may call it. I also had the striping done in the 2 colors that are already striped on my truck, which is a purple and a VERY light blue. Heres a pic first of the colors already previously on my truck.

please dont sit there and stare at the swirls! my truck will be buffed before its first judged show this spring! Some of those may have been induced by the pinstriper who used wax remover on paint with some non MF towel

    Previous striping colors

OK, on to the pistriping, first pics will be base color on both tailgate and hood, then both colors and final striping.

    Base striping (purple)

    Top striping (light Blue)

    Finished striping

Tell me what you guys all think, positive or negative. i think it really added personality to the truck!!!

Striping is not usually my thing but I think that suits your truck very well. Nice one

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I have always liked 'old school' stripping. Seeing this just reinforces my liking.

      Looks good!

Being nosey...You say a good price, may I ask, how much?

          Zach,

I have no idea what stripping is going for these days. The last strip job I had done was on a '49 Merc in 1957 (my dads), and a full striping (hood, door handle areas, trunk, headlights, etc) ran (if I remember it all) $150. That was pricy for the time. This was in the LA area, Sherman Oaks.

I've seen a lot of 'trying to do it old school', but your guy has it down!

I was only being curious, didn't mean to offend ya...

one know why he would say to NOT use any cleaner wax on the pin striping, i mean i know its not cleared over and will obviously take some of it away, but when he wiped my truck down to remove the wax before he striped he severly damaged the paint with horrible straight line swirl marks that i NEED to buff out to remove. you guys dont spose hitting that pin striping once or twice with some compound will really effect it much as in removing it would it? ive hit the other raw pin striping on my truck with UC and 105 and it hasnt changed since that time, as far as removing it so far down to where you can see the red of the pickup under it. what do you guys think i should do?

Perhaps tape up the striping and start easy, with a test spot of SwirlX?

You definitely want to stay off those new stripes with any sort of compound or paint cleaner. You might want to look at hand application in the immediate vicinity so that you stay off the striping as these can be surprisingly delicate. You may well have dodged a bullet in your earlier attempts.

well the other striping is also a solid 10 yrs old.........so it may have become a lot more....durable, than these fresh stripes.

so do you recc hand application even over like a small 3" pad next to striping?

                      Re: 3/17/12 show and more!

Yes, at that age they'll be more durable than freshly applied stripes, but they are still high spots on the overall paint job and as such are much more susceptible to eventual buff through. Be careful, nonetheless. As for using 3" or 4" pads on a DA rather than hand work to remove the adjacent swirl marks - go for it! With some diligence you should be able to stay off the stripes but still get close to them, and easily remove those unsightly swirls.

In our lineup it would be the S3BP backing plate for use with our W7204, W8204 and W9204 4" pads.
