No change in my driving habits or my car (GTO 5.7L V8). I get 16-17 MPG in mostly stop and go city traffic. People that have 4 cyl. PT Cuisers are reporting 17 MPG in similar driving conditions.

My biggest fear with the high gas prices is that the automakers will quit making high performance cars. Ford has already cancelled the new Lightning. It would not surprise me to see GM cancel the new GTO and Camaro planned for '07.

      Zaub,

Well they do have performance mods for GEM's , though technically no matter how fast you go it's not legal to drive them on a road with a higher than 35mph speed limit. I've seen people doing it around here and the police never seem to bother them. I've heard a few people actually got GEM's up to 55mph (I know it's possible). There are actually a few whole planned communities designed around the NEV(neighborhood electric vehicle) idea. When you move if it's more NEV friendly you might also look to finding a Ford Think, they're much more highly desired. Unfortunately they only made them for about a year. The 05 GEM's are a lot better too. They have an upgraded fully independent suspension all around, disk brakes on the front, a actual "gague cluster" now, and all sealed electronics.

Ohh, I don't know if other areas are the same way, but I just recently had to re-register the GEM. It was $17 and some change for not one, but two years!
      Later,

We crossed the $2+ plateau here in Louisville today. Another 10 cent jump overnight brings the grand total to $2.09 for 87.

From total empty to full, I'm looking at spending over $54 for my truck and around $45 on the Explorer. Ouch.

Peru is looking like an option...

Why is gas so cheap in Peru? Is it because the people are so poor and nobody drives cars?

In southeastern Michigan where I'm at it's $2.19 a gallon for Regular. The worst part of it is my Mark VIII takes premium and premium is at $2.39 These prices have got to go down because they are absolutely ridiculous. I agree with everybody that changes there driving. I drive to school and work that's it.

We have just hit $2.55 for 91 octane and is up to $3.05 in some areas of L.A. 87 octane is running about 30 cents less per gallon.

I think the 91 was 2.3X. I don't remember though as when the prices get this high, my 91 burner stays parked and the other two get reduced to 87 and driven very nicely.

I hear ya, I dont drive the mini too much except when I take it to the track so the 91 doesnt heurt too bad. It just runs so much harder on 91.

The ford and the dodge get 87 :-) and the stock mini gets 87
