  • Garage flooring

Well, I'm in the process of purchasing a new home and moving from my current Town House. One thing I'd like to do is either coat my floor with an epoxy, or just tile it with some sort of checkered or solid colored "tiles".

I've looked on a few websites like racedeck.com and amazon to get a feel on what I can expect and what's out there. I'd like to budget around $400-500 on a nice quality flooring.

Has anyone done this? I'm really looking for some feedback from detailers or shop folks that walk/work on this daily. I am mobile but do a fair shair from my garage so I want it to be to my liking, look nice, and beneficial. I've seen a few that were "foam" and claim to help with fatigue, others that were "vented" and allow dirt and water to drop between the crevices and can be vacuumed out. I will not be washing a car inside but I do pull them in to dry them off/blow out water so I could see how that would be beneficial. That and it looks cool over all

Just looking to get some websites along with some thoughts/opinions. Anything is helpful.

    Re: Garage flooring

I'm the same as you, mobile and do some at my house. I ended up buying some carpet from lowes, and carpeted my garage wall to wall for $230. This is a 24x20 garage. The carpet is a low cut, commeercial carpet with a rubber backing. So far it's been a dream to work on stuff out there, but I do have to worry about stains. But overall, I'm much happier with my choice over tile.

BTW: I have epoxy floor coating underneath, and it has been peeling up like crazy! Carpet looks so much better, and feels better also.

    Just my $0.02

Keep in mind that any carpet on bare concrete floor will draw moisture and you will end up with mold under your carpet. My opinion is epoxy floor.Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info, Nick! I came across floorjunkies.com and their rates along with durability is what I'm aiming for. I'm most likely going to do a checkered theme since I do race and it ties in with cars/detailing. But mainly, the over all look is what appeals to me along with the durability. I thought about getting the perforated stuff to allow water to drip down along with dirt and then vacuum it up. But, the more I thought about it...I'm just leaning to "coin drop" lay out. From my research, the only thing I would need to do is put down some "landscape drop" under the solid one to reduce any noise while walking across it.

BTW, I stocked up on some stuff today at Wash Solutions and Barry up there mentioned you since I was picking up more MF Cutting disks He's a great dude and always takes care of me no problem!
