  • I thougt this was meguiars

I am not sure this is the place but here goes!
when i first became involved with site and became somewhat computer savy, this was about meguiars products and how to use them. i was lucky enough to meet both rod kraft and mike phillips, and have them at my shop. i have since become good friends with rod. i owe all of my success to the instruction and the products from meguiars. i have been in the trade for over 12 years, and i have not used this site to get free advertising, but i see alot of other "detailers" who use other products getting the free advert. maybe you on the left coast should re evaluate the reason this site was made. i have long given up hope to ever work for meguiars after 3m made the deal.i will keep using only the best products on my clients cars, and that will be meguiars. i try all new products, but i only use meguiars!
    thanks for the time

Well, it may be free advertising but it is more than that as it shows other people that their are real successful detailers who use mostly all Meguiars products. I mean, we get to say we have a detailing business and we also post how we use Meguiars to help us achieve amazing results. Seems like a win-win.

I mean, no one I have seen has ever used this site merely for advertising. They all contribute and help provide information to members looking for advice.

If you are referring to people posting the details they have done, then I believe that is more for advertising a product and it's capabilities/success rather than the detailer. People can learn from these posts about what products are used where and when, in addition to the results of certain products.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

        I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
        Remove swirls my friends.

I'm way more cynical than you, but I see very little value in "advertising" to other professional detailers and hobby detailers on this site. Additionally, it's pretty unreasonable to expect no mention of non-Meguiar's products.

I use a lot of Meguiar's products, but my favorite sealant for longevity is Finish Kare 1000P. Hey, it's made by Barry's brother so it is a Meguiar's product, right?

I would think that discussion of other products is valuable to Meguiar's. I've used M21 versions 1 and 2 and Nxt Wax for years, but find that 1000P outperforms any Meguiar's sealant in durability and at least matches Meguiar's in looks on my F250 in Wyoming winters.

If I didn't write that, how would Meguiar's know that in my experience, there are better sealants on the market?

Shutting your eyes and ears to the outside world and telling yourself your products are the best is the fastest way to lose market share.

Since you joined MOL just 7 months ago there really hasn't been much of a change at all - other than maybe 3500 new members joining since you have. We've always been open to discussions about competitors products, and we fully understand that lots of guys use different products for a wide variety of reasons. While MOL is obviously a Meguiar's centric site and we can't really offer a lot of guidance on competitors products, we certainly don't mind mention of them. And we've always encouraged members to show off their work, and share their process with the rest of the community. Even if that process includes use of competing products at times. You can look at posts dating back several years and this is true. Now, if you have a problem with a competitors product and come here asking for help with it, we may not be your best resource for sorting out that product - but some of our forum members might be experienced with it.

If we were to close our doors to discussions of other products we could be seen as censoring, closed minded, elitist. Yes, this is a company owned forum, hence the lack of paid advertising present on the site (and trust us, we get all kinds of request for paid sponsorship here and we turn it all down). Along that line, we will not allow anyone to join the forum strictly with the intention of marketing themselves or their products. That results in instant banning. But if you're a pro detailer, or even an enthusiast who likes to detail for dollars on the side, we have no problem with your contact info being shown in your signature line. After 30 posts, of course - we want to get to know you a bit first. Heck, we even have a forum section dedicated to helping others find a detailer near them, and that section has been here for years.

I remember when they had the Class at your shop at your house back in 2006 and they posted the pictures online. Pretty Cool
