  • I hate it when this happens

I hate it when you feel like your losing a client.

One of my clients who has been with me a couple of years now and gives me tons of work has been giving a few jobs to one of his family members who "details" now on the side.

I do a lot of jobs in this neighborhood and I see the guy wiping their black vehicle down with some old bath/beach towel. Went and dropped off a bill for services performed the other day and I just got a strange vibe from them.

I perform a fair amount of services for my customers and I feel I perform good quality work and yes I charge a premium price but not over the top due to the economy.

I just hate it when things such as this happen and it makes me feel like I am doing something wrong.

I am done ranting for now, usually try and rant only twice a year.

I bet that when they compare the 2 final products, you will win out and they will come back to you. Your work is excellent and speaks for it's self.

      Nick,

You bring up something I try to avoid. I'm a hobbyist or an enthusiast and I do charge a minimum of a fee, however I know the cars I've been doing are not being done by someone else. Now granted, there is a tunnel wash that I have done a couple of cars that frequent that place, but I'm not "stealing" from a professional detailer. I wouldn't feel right about that. In most cases, I think they return to the tunnel soon after I've performed a correction. Much easier for them a half hour trip through a tunnel versus me having the car for a day or so. (ain't no way I work as fast as you!!)

I think I can relate to your pain. In my previous career, similar things would happen. Often beyond my control, I still felt a twang of both hurt and sometimes anger over a situation. Sometimes those situations were totally out of my (and your) control.

Twice a year rant? You seem to show great restraint!!
