  • Motor update its not siezed Pics!

Hey guys an update to my 351 motor tear down. I pulled the spark plugs and sprayed WD40 down there first for a try and had my friend hold the motor in place while it was on the cherry picker. Because it had the torque converter still on and we could not reach the really rounded out nuts holding it on the flywheel with my craftsman handy dandy tool that takes care of those pesky nuts that are rounded. and so we tried to rotate the motor to spin the converter to get all 4 nuts and well it spun a little pretty easily until it got stuck i assume on dirt and rust inside the cylinder walls, i could not get it to do a full rotatation but it did move which i was happy. Got it on the engine stand and started the tear down.

Sweet. Where did you learn to do all this at such a young age? I've always wished I had the knowledge to do what you're able to. I've never known anyone that could take me under their wing and teach me.

I was in 3 years of ROP engine shop and 1 year of autobody. I'm really thankful to my high school auto shop teacher who was the best, he was a Indy car crew chief and almost made it into the Indy 500 back in 98 and was building a Nascar Camping world truck team which i was on as a gopher for the team for getting tools and working on the Nascar and learned so much. I'm great friends with him now and i still see him quite often for help with certain things that have me baffled on how to fix it. In high school, i bought that 62 thunderbird to learn pretty much on my own to tinker on it. I like to work with my hands which is also why i like detailing lol, And the more I do things the more I learn, each car resto has its differences after having my 3rd project you just kind of pick up those old school tricks from friends or shop teachers to get those hard task done in a easier fashion. If you have a high school near you see if they have a ROP automotive program which in my area cost 180 dollars for adults to train the class. Its well worth it in the end because they not only teach you how to do it and the basics, they help make sure if a job had to be done at the shop for you, you will know who is ripping you off and who is being honest in the job labor cost. Motors are pretty simple. well... the old ones are way easier lets say then these newer cars with the ECU, OBD2 stuff and all this junk on top of the motor.

That engine looks pretty good for having set that long. You may have a valve stuck down keeping it from turning all the way over. But you on your way now.

I figured one hole would look like that. The one that the value is open on always collects the water or wasps nest or something. Looks pretty good, it's going to clean up nicely for you.
