  • Carpeted my garage......redneck style!

Was planning to buy some type of covering for my floor. My legs and knees usually are killing me by the end of the day, because of the concrete, and I just needed something a bit softer.

So here's what I came up with for now, till I can decide on what exactly I'm gonna put down for a permanent solution. As it is now, I can just roll them up when I don't need them, which is very nice for changing oils and things like that!

I'm looking for 3 more decent moving blankets to make it complete, but for now, it's perfect! Working on a car with it right now, and it's really helped the soreness in my feet and legs, and my back feels better at the end of the night also!

You need some rubber work mats to ease the discomfort. They will help quite a bit.

Sears has a nice cushy foam pad that comes in a 8x6 i think. Helps quite a bit when working on a car.

What about foam knee pads, would that help?

Have you considered something like foam gym floor mats? You could clean them off easily, and they would help your knees and back.

I agree with the rubber mat suggestion. IMO GET some knee pads with the most shock absorption you can available.

Your job depends on your low back, consider knee pads.

Sitting is harder on the low back than standing, and Kneeling combines the stress of sitting with the shock of walking on a hard surface.

When standing you have 2 flexible joints to absorb shock: ankles/knees. You got nothin when you shift position while kneeling.

Professional boxers wear gloves and a cup right?

Since I am in unsolicited advice mode:

              I wear a neoprene waist-wrap from Big 5.
I don't wrap it tight...just to the point where it keeps the low back muscles warm when I take a work break. That way, I don't pull any muscles when I get back to work.

I would also make sure you have the most comfortable shoes possible. For me, New Balance really does the job. I had a bad back that bothered me daily for a couple years... switched from normal shoes to running shoes and it completely went away.

Do you know anyone who races dirt-track cars? The tire treads make excellent standing or kneeling strips. Depending on the car class, tread surfaces are from 10" to 18" wide and 90" to 104" long, with a right rear Sprint Car tire the largest. Sidewalls are so thin on a race tire that you can eaily cut them off with a utility knife and the soft tire compounds are more comfy underfoot than most other rubber mats.

Try wearing knee pads for your knees.

I first started wearing them a couple months ago & never looked back.

I can vouch for the foam rubber squares that interconnect. I take Tae Kwon Do and this is what we exercise on. It's works great. Most all Big Lot's carry these 2x2 squares at a reasonable price.

Yeah, but how well do they with water? Oil? Hot Tires?

I think they are made for yoga or something.
