    Re: Classy Off Roader?

Well, if you find something that fits that description for under $10K, let me know. I'll buy one, too.

Seriously, I think that's a dream list, not a reality. Hopefully you prove me wrong, though.

      Me to!

Maybe a Jeep early 2000's Rubicon....but you will still be over the 10 grand budget with EVERYTHING on your list.

My vote would be an older Chevy from the 80's. You can get them for a dime a dozen, and parts are plentiful. They are EXTREMELY easy to work on. Not only that, for the classy part, you can look for some that have a hood ornament! I've been looking for an 80's suburban my self with a hood ornament.
I've been told I'm obsessed with my car, but I've got the cleanest car on the block!

The perfect car would be a Jeep Grand Wagoneer, but alas, they do not have airbags.....

If your budget was over 10k I would just buy a heavy duty truck such as an F-350, Silverado HD, Power Wagon etc.

But like Colin said, your list is a bit unrealistic.

Plus no offroad Jeep or pickup got decent gas mileage ten years ago.

                Porsche Cayenne

The '05 models can be had for just under $30k - more than the $10k you mentioned, but like some others have said, I think that may be a bit of a reach for what you're looking for.

The Cayenne's are supposedly outstanding offroad, but I wouldn't know. I stay on the streets!

Any help? Heck, you're asking for a miracle. Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not God. Your expectations are way too unrealistic. You either need to significantly increase your budget or significantly decrease your list of 'wants'.

For around $22 - $24K you could be the proud new owner of a high mileage Mercedes G500. It meets most of your criteria.

                      Re: Classy Off Roader?

I did an estimate on a white 99 Yukon XL today with 194k miles. Flat white paint, trashed interior.

They had mentioned the dealer offered them 3k for it, they were thinking about trading it in on something new.

This kinda fits your description, find one with 100 -130k miles for 10k or less.

I know the Suburbans have an option for the Z71 Off road package.

                      Maybe something to look into.

On a side note, when I gave the guy a price of $225 which I considered pretty good for a whole day of work he said he could never imagine paying more than $100 to have a car or truck detailed.

That statement alone just made my blood boil, ended up just telling him to find someone else since my days of spending all day on a vehicle for $100 was over.

Just start hunting for something you like. Alot of the Autotrader type sites allow you to type in a price range. Do that and you'll see what comes up in your budged amount. Then go from there. Best of luck!!

Tuck91 I have to say I know where your comming from with those types of comments from people. I always ask now what they are basing there #'s on when they say it's not worth $$$?? for a detail. Usally throws them off a bit.

I hear ya brother!! I use to detail for some "wholesalers"...more like curbers... and it was near impossiple to get more than a 100 bucks out of them. Some of those detailing jobs were 12 -16 hrs!!(with my wife helping out!) Now I state my price and if they don't want to pay they can find a "fly by night" kinda guy to do a half butt job.

You have paid your dues, so let the guys who think they "detail" handle the cheapos.

Another thing that gets on my nerves is when people like to "talk"

Calling me on the phone , wasting my time asking me questions they already know, putting me on hold, asking them to call them back. I am not talking about random new customers, but people that do this 5-6 times a year.

                          Or,

People telling you that they will have you service their vehicle at "the end of the month" or "a couple weeks". And it ends up taking six months to a year to finally set up an appointment. Or sometimes never.

To this day I have one lady in paticular that will approach me while working at another client's house ( I am usually there 2-3 times a month) to set up an appointment for her Hummer H3, and after two years it has never gone beyond that point.

98% of the time I bite my tongue but I couldnt help myself about a year ago & recently in the past few months when a local guy who is a "detailer" tried to steal some of my clients by offering a full detail for $50.

The guy is hurting the market value which hurts me & other professional detailers & himself in the long run. Its basically a hack driving this industry into the ground.

You mean a Lexus LX450? Expect super high mileage for less than $10K. Good luck on the hunt. Properly maintained, these and the Land Cruiser are known to go 300k miles very easily.
