  • OK, so Nick is a wuss and can't kill a bird...

What are my other options? This little dude is just destroying my tree and I don't know how to stop him. He's been working on it for about 2 years now, and done a lot of damage!

Maybe just wait until he is done?

Seems kinda too late now I guess.

I can bring my falcon down and he will take care of the problem!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't Woodpeckers only do this where there is a bug infestation of some kind? He's not just drilling holes for his amusement. There must be some sort of grubs or insects in the tree that he's after, probably just under the bark.

from what i learned in science class way back when.... if i remember correctly.... woodpeckers help trees by taking out the bugs inside.... like what stangfan said.... but that tree sure does look ugly..... if it was me and if i cared enough about it... i'd go hack off all the top layer of bark...

M105 should take those holes out!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

looks like normal woodpecker activity to me and you have to live with it. I think it's pretty amazing how that make the holes in the bark to get at what ever is in there.

I also agree with Andrew a little compound and the DA should work wonders

If you can stand to kill it yourself, have someone do the dirty work. LOL. I bet it's annoying to hear that going on all the time. That's one busy little bugger!

                  Step 1: Put purse down...

The bugs seem like a good guess... might be time for a trip to a good garden center.

Woodpeckers and trees are normal components of a healthy ecosystem. If your tree is a local variety and the bird is indigenous they probably get along just fine.

I would try to find a local wildlife biologist and maybe an arborist to see if it really is a problem before trying to "fix" it.

There's probably a local nature conservation group, Audubon Society, college wildlife biology program or other such thing that can point you to the right people to talk to. (And they're usually more than happy to talk to anybody who's interested.)

Would you two like someone to shoot at you?

                            Why kill an innocent bird?

Sounds like a good time to put the power washer to work . maybe that will put him out of commission
