  • Worst Paint!?

Do any of you guys have photos of some of the worst paint you've seen, or worked on? I saw this car parked next to me at school today and just had to take photos. The photos barely even do it justice, but this is pretty much a detailer's nightmare. As Mike Phillips described it to me, this is what I call horrific paint:

Hard to see any serious defects in that paint since it's just covered in a thick layer of dirt. Dirt that has been brushed off in some areas, which is certainly not a good thing!!

But for paint in really bad shape, have a look at this:

My niece's car, that she had buffed out at a local car wash with a gift certificate she received for her birthday. Yes, the whole car looked like this, and this was after washing!

Or this Chevy Silverado that came through our garage here at work a while back. One side had been repainted and buffed out. Again, this truck had just been washed.

Here's the same area as above after doing a quick test spot with Ultimate Compound/W8207/G110v2

This is one of the worst I have seen. And it is MINE! This is how it was returned to me after getting it back from the body shop.

I took it back 3 times (car was hit again not long after getting it back the first time). All in all this body shop got 4 chances to make my car right, before I had to detail it myself and send them befores and afters.

My arthritis was telling me I had just done some really bad paint running a PC at speed six for a couple of days, but these examples...I don't feel so bad.

I don't have a picture, but I just worked on a 2002 Toyota Camry that was white. It was so oxidized, the towels just stuck do it. It's like there was no clearcoat on it at all. My boss just shook his head the whole time in disbelief. I really wish we'd upgrade to the PRC instead of Cleaner Wax, but he keeps buying Cleaner Wax and now Color X.
That and the old G100 with what seems to be an 8" pad isn't helping matters.
