  • Chromed Corolla

Here is a picture I took in São Paulo Auto Show of a Chromed Corolla

There are hundreds of swirls in the rear door and it's supposed to be a show car. Because I had to resize the pic, swirls are less perceptible.

Now, just as curiosity, the detailing method for this type of paint would be the same as "normal" paint?

That car really is swirled. Terrible.

It depends on whether the coating is a bc/cc or actual chrome plating. If it's regular bc/cc then normal detailing rules would apply but if it is actually covered in chrome plating a chrome polish would likely be used.

That is usually paint made by Alsa Corp. Yes, you would correct the paint as usual. It has a clearcoat.

That style is big in Dubai right now....

Depending on who made the paint you may not be able to do much of anything to it. A few years ago at SEMA there was a Volvo sedan painted like this and talking to the guys who were taking care of it they said that the paint manufacturer explicitly told them, under no circumstances, should you ever do anything more than wipe it down with a quick detail spray. They went so far as to say the painter had to get it sprayed dead perfect, or strip it and start over because there was no way to "correct" it. No buffers, no paint cleaners, nothing.

I think we found a colour to paint KB's Scout. Could you imagine him riding around in a swirled up mess like that and not being able to do anything about it

I will pitch in $100 if you can make it happen

99% sure this is a "Chrome"-like finish (i.e. silver coating with clear coat) - there are several suppliers of this system (Alsa, Cosmi-Chrome, Tech Line, etc.).

In theory - you would correct swirls as on regular clear coats but I'd be very careful working the paint (as mentioned by Mike Stoops).

If you look closely at the pic, you can also see the the horrible OP. Nothing is going to get you a mirror shine outa that paint job other than a complete wet-sand! Here's a better pic of it..... http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/pho.../size/big/cat/

Micheal, it was probably a product like this:

Most chrome paints get clear coated, therefore they can be buffed out normally.
