I have used that one with M105 on my Honda, Nissan and Toyota, circa 2000 models. Since the clears are not hard on those cars, it works quite well. If M105 handy, one can substitute Ultimate Compound instead. This method did not work on 1999 BMW 740iL though as they have hard clear.

Michael, this guy has no clue what he is doing. He is letting the compound dry for crying out loud! I would not try to do what he did. Use M95 with a rotary and rotary only. Sure it will maybe take some imperfections out, but it is not going to finish out properly. Plus this is a white car in horrible lighting, so of course you won't see any scratches.

So he's obviously a young guy who's just starting to discover the hobby so we can't really fault him for not using the products correctly. It would be nice to get in touch with him, however, since sooner or later this process is going to backfire on him and he's bound to make a new YouTube video slamming a product or two. It's really hard to fault a product when you don't use it correctly, but it's easy to get lulled into a false sense of accomplishment when that incorrect usage actually gives a positive result.


jrwms, consider this thread in lesson in what not to do, and in more ways than one. You should not use M95 as described in this YouTube video, and maybe importantly you should not use YouTube as a definitive source of detailing products and detailing techniques information.

Absolutely true, Nick. When we recommend a product be used a certain way, like with a rotary buffer, that doesn't mean you can never under any circumstances use it via a different process. What it means is that we know you can get repeatable results on a variety of surfaces using the product the way we state it should be used. In some cases, and sometimes in many cases, the product can still work quite effectively when used differently.

But let's say a rotary designed product only works well about half the time when used on a D/A. We can't then state that this is a D/A recommended product if there's a 50/50 chance it won't work, can we? Of course not. We're always fine with people testing and experimenting but we'll let you know up front if something is a definite no-no; like chrome wheel cleaner on polished aluminum wheels, or our consumer rubbing and polishing compounds on a D/A. Some things just should not be done.

But if not for experimentation nobody would be using M105 on a D/A.

I experienced the exact same symptoms as you with 105.
It's funny, I just read your article today, but I bought some M95 last week because I wanted something cheap to burn through to protect my M105 supply =)

Or M105 as a leather cleaner?
