  • Salesman at dealership took my MINI!

So, as you all know, I traded in the MINI for the Civic in my avatar. Now, when we were under negotiations for trade in value, I became suspicious that someone there wanted to buy the car and that was the reason for their stubborness. Anyway, I went to pick up my registration from the dealership and one of the salesmen walks up to me.

He says, "Hey, your the MINI (he pronounced it MEENIE) guy."
I said, "Umm, yeah. Do you know what happened to it?"
He says, "Oh yeah, I bought it for my daughter."
    I said "Oh, that's nice."

So, the car that was 80% free of defects upon trade in is now in the hands of someone who will probably beat it to heck. Poor MINI.

No need to rant. Obviously you got what you considered to be a good trade allowance, or you wouldn't have completed the deal.
If my daughter needs a car, I'm going to find her the absolute best car I can find that fits her budget, 'cause that's what fathers do. They chose yours, likely because it appeared to be a well cared-for vehicle. You should take it as a compliment.

I'm not ranting, I'm just a little frustrated that they blatantly lied to me and my parents when they said that no one at the dealership was going to buy the car. They said that numerous times and then I walk in there and find out that he bought it the day after the trade-in wasa made. I just wanted them to be honest and tell me what was going on. Didn't mean to rant.

I enjoy the Civic more than I did the MINI actually.

I'm just annoyed that they so obviously lied to me and tried to treat me like an idiot.

Get your revenge by taking your Civic in for service elsewhere. That and if anyone ask you about your car be sure to send them elsewhere as well. If they put one of those dealer stickers/license plates on your car. I would remove those with the quickness also

Must be your first time at a stealership. This is what they do. I've purchased more than 20 vehicles in my time and have never had a dealer be completely honest, despite what they claim. That is why I avoid them like the plague.

If you walk on a stealer's lot expecting people to be honest with you, you're setting yourself up to be extremely disappointed.

On a side note, glad you're liking your Honda. You'll be happier overall, anyways. Reliability and resale value are head and shoulders above the Mini.

I can understand your disappointment in being lied to. I just don't understand how or why the conversation even took place.

I realize it's tough selling a vehicle you cared for. However after you sell it, it's out of your control. Especially if you sold it to a dealership. It's not like you had a private sale to a family member with conditions attached.

If you wanted to feel good about the car after you no longer needed it, you should have donated it to a museum. You chose money and we all know money has no ethics. You have to just let it go.

I know where you are coming from though. I've sold vehicles I cared for, only to watch them get trashed. It's painful.

In all fairness to dealerships. Not all people that work there lie. I think this is a stereotype that gets blown out of proportion. I worked in new vehicles sales (only 3 months mind you) and I did quite well. I never once lied to a person. There is no need to lie to someone to sell a vehicle.

CooperS, why did you guys care or ask what was going to happen to the vehicle after the trade in? Did you think you would be getting a better trade in value if you thought they were going to make a profit off of the mini? I can guarantee when the salesman purchased it, the dealership charged him more than they paid for it. Getting a nice trade in like yours, the used car manager would have known they could easily make a good profit on the Cooper.

I think most dealerships try to get you by saying whatever it takes to complete the sale. Since you state your enjoying the Civic more then the mini. Let it go. Enjoy the Civic and remember the lesson learned here. Maybe stop patronizing this dealership in the future go to a different dealership.

I'm not trying to say all dealerships lie. I'm just giving an example. I was just trying to tell a story. I'm not angry at dealerships or the people there but I was a little miffed. I wasn't trying to blow it out of proportion or anything; just tell a story. Sorry if it seemed differently.

We didn't ask about what was going to happen to the MINI in the beginning. However, when they were stuck on a price a few grand away from what the book said, we put the pieces together. We have bought every single one of our Hondas from this dealership (6 in total) and more importantly all from one salesman. We just wanted an honest answer. It wouldn't have changed our minds about trading it in or getting the right value but at least we would have been treated like people.

The point of me writing about this story was just to tell a story. I wasn't and will not offend anyone and I didn't make any sterotypes about dealerships. I was just telling a story.

Hope that clears everything up. I am not angry or p***** off, I was just a little annoyed. Now, I could really care less.
