  • Bluetooth or wireless?

So im @ college and i wanted to tidy up my room a bit. I discovered that my flat screen has the ability to use VGA as an input. So i decided to store my laptop of a while and go with a "cleaner" look. I hid my laptop and hooked it up to my flat screen. I then bought a wireless HP keyboard that is super thin! love it! I pulled out my old/cheap wireless mouse. The only issue is that it only works if im super close and even then the 'coverage" is spotty? Wierd. So i plan on getting another mouse. I currently have a bluetooth adapter (i use it to send pics from my phone to my computer). So should i get another "better" wireless mouse or a bluetooth one? Is there a big difference in quality or anything significant? Tips/advice? lol
    Thanks

    Re: Bluetooth or wireless?

Just get a new wireless mouse. A lot of logitech mice will have an extender cord that allows for you to put the wireless receiver somewhere where it will give the mouse good reception.

Check out cowboom on ebay. It is the bestbuy outlet on ebay and they have great deals on mice and keyboards on there.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

The following is quoted from PC world:

Q: What's the Difference Between Bluetooth and Wi-Fi?

A: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both wireless networking standards that provide connectivity via radio waves. The main difference: Bluetooth's primary use is to replace cables, while Wi-Fi is largely used to provide wireless, high-speed access to the Internet or a local area network.

              Re: Bluetooth or wireless?

Wireless, in the sense of WiFi, doesn't really apply to a "wireless" mouse. We often think of "wireless" as being used in the sense of a wireless network at work or home, or connecting via a wireless hotspot at the airport, Starbucks, hotels, etc. It's a fairly long range, high speed connection.

Bluetooth is a very short range (about 30' max, usually) most commonly associated with headsets for use with cellphones. Yes, these are often referred to as "wireless headsets" because, well, it's not connected to the cell phone with a wire. There is some degree of pairing that has to take place with the wide range of Bluetooth devices on the market. For example, if you purchase a new wireless headset (Bluetooth device) and want to use it with your cell phone you first have to introduce the two devices to each other - pair them. It's not an automatic connection at first. A wireless mouse is an automatic pairing since it usually uses a USB device as it's antenna or connection device, rather than any hardware built into the computer. A Bluetooth mouse could use a USB Bluetooth antenna that plugs into a USB port, or it could use hardware built into the computer.

My Blackberry has Bluetooth connectivity, as does my Motorola wireless headset. My HP work laptop has Bluetooth built in, so I can transfer files between it and my Blackberry without physically connecting the two. My computer at home lacks built in Bluetooth so I have to connect it to my Blackberry with a cable plugged into a USB port.

So what's the difference, really, from a user standpoint when dealing with a mouse? Not much, really. If your computer lacks built in Bluetooth connectivity then you'd need to find a mouse that comes with a Bluetooth USB dongle. If you just got a regular old "wireless" mouse, you'd still plug in a USB dongle and the mouse would connect to it. The difference in connection speed won't mean much of anything for using just a mouse.

So, while the two protocols are quite different from each other, as the user of a mouse without a physical cable connected to the computer, you won't notice anything different.
