  • PC and Pad Choice Help

Alright so the cat's outta the bag, I have never owned/ used a good quality PC, G100, etc. before. All my details I've done so far have been by hand. I need something to speed up the process of my compounding/ polishing/ waxing jobs. I have a Rockford 10" "polisher", that I got from Wal-Mart, that I only use for headlights for the time being. It has only one speed and I only have a terry cloth bonnet for it. I need something with an adjustable speed that is easy to control. I need a good polisher that can do a good job and be something that a beginner like me can start with. Something easy that won't get me in over my head and have me ruining my own car, much less anyone else's. I want to use the M105/ M205 combo on my car in particular and I have been getting emails like crazy having ppl asking me how to get swirls and RIDs out of their cars.

I know I need some good pads to go with it as well. Something like LC pads. I noticed everyone talking about red, white, orange, etc. pads and I'm trying to figure out which pad is for what use. So as you can see, I'm in quite the hole when it comes to rotaries. If you guys could help me out, that would be awesome!

A PC or the G110V2 are both great polishers and are very safe. For pads, Go with Orange, White, Black and blue. The yellow cutting pad would be an option too but you might having follow it up with something less aggressive just incase it leaves marring or swirls of its own. I haven't tried the red pad but it seems like people use it for there LSP, I personally use the blue finessing pad for my LSP

How about the Flex DA? Is it 'safe'?

Just throwing out a crazy idea here....... Meguiar's makes pads.

Did you see the C6 Corvette we worked on over the weekend with just a W8207 polishing pad and Ultimate Compound? Or the black Chrysler Crossfire that was buffed out by a total D/A newbie using that same pad and liquid?

Just curious, why do you think you need M105 on your car? It is absolutely the most aggressive liquid we make. Are the defects in your paint so severe that you need something this potent to correct them?

A flex would be safer than a rotary but not as safe as the PC or G110v2,
it doesn't slow down as put more weight on it, there's a greater risk of burning the paint.

The meguiar's pads are really good too, I haven't tried them yet but just based on other peoples reviews

I personally, noting your concerns would go with the following. Get a combo deal from ADS. The Meguiar soft buff pads are very good. I believe Rick has very good prices, top notch service and a stellar reputation.

I would get one of his packages in a heartbeat.

I did and agree 100%. Rick will answer any questions and help and service is great. I like the Meguiar's pads because they are machine wash and dry for cleanup.

I knew Meguiar's makes pads too and don't think for a second that I'm only aiming at LC for pads. I'm just confused as to where to go. As for the M105 situation, I guess that would be over doing it. Maybe a couple passes with SwirlX or UC would do the trick easily.
