  • my car trouble therory? can someone verify?

So i was having trouble when turning on my headlights. I have aftermarket DDM Tuning HID headlights installed in my car. I have had.then for about 5 months...no issues. About a month ago i moved one of my ballasts to on top of my computer...no issues until last thurs. When i turned on my headlights my car would go into limp mode and the check engine light would come on...it was towed to my dealership and they reset the codes. That night it did it again. It was towed back. They noticed it only happened when then tturned on my headlights. Since they were aftermarket they said it voided my warrenty. I paid them$ 115 to get my car back. I brought it home and googled some things. I found out that it is.possible for hid ballasts to interfer with electronic.devices? So i removed them and used standard bulbs....no problems. Today i reinstalled my hide and moved the ballast about 8 inches from the computer....so far no problems...,what do u think it was? Have y'all heard stories of ballasts interfering? And more thoughts? Keep ur fingers crossed!

It sounds like you've already answered your own questions. In all likely hood the HID ballast is causing electrical interference.

What you need to do is have a little bit of patience with your troubleshooting. Keep the ballast away from the computer for a few weeks (even if you don't like it there) and see how things go. Then if you want to prove the issue move it back to where you were having issues.

What I would do in the meantime is keep the standard bulbs and tools (if needed) to convert back to standard bulbs if you have issues while on the road.

It _is_ your balasts. Or to be precise it is power going through your balasts causing intereference on nearby electronic equipment.

+2 for the ballast. A ballast is a capacitor and it will create a magnetic field around it. Keep them away from all electronics.

Magnet fields + Electronics = Bad.
