  • Anyone detailed a black 350Z?

Just need a little input. One of my wifes best friends owns a 350Z roadster. I told her that I would "bring it back to life" It's black..... I have a PC 7336sp and megs polishing and finishing pads and #80 speed glaze. I was just wondering how hard the paint is on this car? I get great results on my truck with #80 and NXT 2.0 or #26. I know.....test spot first!

I found the paint to be a little on the harder side. Not sure you will get much correction with #80 but it's worth a try.

Thanks Rasky....nice turn around on that Z. I don't think her paint is that bad but I haven't seen it in the sun yet! I might just have to break down and get some 205 from the local PPG store if the #80 doesn't cut it. It's just a bit spendy and I have alot of #80.

Hey Rasky....you think UC would handle it? I think it was released after you did that Z. That way I wouldn't have to buy a quart of the 205.....I only detail the wifes car and my truck.

Ultimate Compound is fantastic stuff - not quite the cutting ability of M105 but not terribly far off, and it's much more forgiving on a D/A. You really should have some in your arsenal. Plus, if you find it hazes the finish at all, a quick follow up with the M80 you already have will clear that up quickly. On top of that, the polishing oils in M80 should do wonders for the black paint on that Z as well!

I've done a black 350Z and found it to be fantastic paint to polish. Ultimate Compound will probably achieve the correction you need.

Finishing with M205 will be perfect if you have it.

Yeah I tried to post earlier but I lost the connection at my work. It would be a lot cheaper to just run and get a bottle of UC and if the paint is not as bad as the one I did you should be good to go.

Thanks for the input guys....gonna pick up some UC. Maybe I'll do some before and after pics like you pros do! It's a beautiful car but I've only seen it in total shade. I could see plenty of water-spots.....hopefully not the etched kind!

You guys have any tips for the UC? I pretty much have #80 dialed in but I know that UC has a longer work time and doesn't have to break down. I have clayed the entire car and it has moderate swirling and some waterspotting...haven't done a test spot yet though.

It's pretty straight forward. It will be similar to M80 in terms of how it applies, you just have the option of stopping a little sooner. Don't work it until it is totally dry - that's really the only thing to avoid.

Also work manageable sized areas, around 12x12 or 16x16.

Today was the first day with no sun......got to work. Really couldn't tell from my test spot with #80 how it was working so I figured I'd do the whole car and get the paint squeeky clean. Sun came out and it looks like I got about 50% swirl removal and all the waterspotting is gone. Did a small test spot with the UC...that stuff is AMAZING!! Looks close to 90% defect free on my test spot. Gonna finish tomorrow.....Thanks for all the tips guys!!!!
