  • 2010 Soccer World Cup

Down here on the southern tip of Africa we're halfway through the 2010 World Cup. Any of you guys following the action, and if so, who are you supporting?

Unfortunately the home team was eliminated on Tuesday, but the excitement of hosting the tournament and being close to the action has not diminished our enthusiasm. USA managed a last minute goal in their game against Algeria last night to finish top of their group and progress to the 2nd round.

They will be facing Ghana, the last remaining African team, on Saturday evening (local time).

I've been following it and cheering for USA all the way!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

I agree that USA were gifted a goal in their match against England, but they were also robbed of a legitimate goal (and a victory) against Slovenia.

England have a big challenge this weekend when they meet up with fierce rivals Germany.

Forza Azzuri. The World Cup has been a good one this year, some surprise matches and great games.

El TriColor - Mexico's national team which I have followed since I was a child.

Also for the US, but it's just hard to find other diehard fans in a country that doesn't really care about soccer.

                Arrivederci!

I think the cup is gonna go to either Brazil or Argentina.

The surprises continue - a great game between Italy and Slovakia yesterday.

We now have the defending champions, the runners up from 2006 and the host nation eliminated. The current Euro champions, Spain, are also under threat in today's final group stage matches.

World Cup statistics show that a European country has never won the tournament when it's been hosted outside of Europe. At this stage I would have to agree that Argentina or Brazil are the favourites to lift the trophy on 11 July.

All I can say is I have never seen such poor officiating in any other sport. FIFA can't seem to get it right with there refs.

At least two teams are out of the tournament based on non-calls or bad calls and the USA was almost sent out on a "mystery" call.

In any event, Brazil look like the winners to me, outside shot to Holland.

Being Mexican-Amercian, I cheer for both teams. team USA, and Mexico. To be honest, Both are lucky their still alive, as they haven't shown that they belong with the top elites. Although, if they ever clash together, I cheer for Mexcio 1st :-D

So the Northern & Central American challenge has come to an end with USA and Mexico losing to Ghana and Argentina respectively.

England were demolished by Germany, but the talking point remains the officiating with two more dreadful decisions in Sunday's games. A clear goal for England disallowed and an illegitimate goal by Argentina allowed to stand. One wonders what impact the disallowed England goal would have had on the nature of the game if it had be allowed, as it would have levelled the scores at halftime?

I'm not sure what FIFA are hoping to achieve by stubbornly refusing to consider using modern technology to assist with these calls.

It looks like and seems like the Oranje are on their way to their first World Cup.

In my opinion it looks like it is going to be an all European final. European team winning outside of Europe.
