Re: Do you use Twitter?
I use Twitter for work reasons. It's a fantastic way to track information.
Twitter is not like, nor meant to be like Facebook, at least not in my opinion. It's more about the exchange of information.
Interested in company "ABC?" Follow them on Twitter.
Want to know about breaking news? Add a bunch of news outlets on Twitter. I use a program called TweetDeck which allows you to sort streams into different columns to easily track the information.
It's great...when used the right way.

Many people misuse Twitter, which leads to others strongly disliking it. If used properly, Twitter can be a great tool.-----

Re: Do you use Twitter?
I never really felt the need to update people as much as was conveyed by other Twitter users, I do have a Facebook account that I have family on so we can share pictures back and forth, but that's about it. Funny how a lot of people have aversions to using phones anymore. Hey- I'm guilty of it too. We're in an electronic age though...2000 Ford Explorer XLT "Deuce"

One thing is 100% certain, I'll never use facebook or twitter ..
I only social network on this and maybe 3 other sites. No FaceBook, My Space, Twitter or anything else. I also do not text, in fact I have no idea how that works. I speak with, on average about 100 people a day on the phone & that is more than enough social interaction for me.2014 Cadillac ATS4 Performance in White Diamond Tricoat. As for FaceBook, the recently changed settings are much better and do allow proper privacy - before they did not.
Same concept applies there, really. If you don't want pictures or words of personal things to be seen by others, you can just avoid posting them. It still allows for professional and personal networking.
I actually just spoke at an automotive thought leadership summit a few weeks about on the subject of social media - it's a growing trend that will only get bigger, especially for businesses.
If people want to avoid them on a personal level, by all means, but professionally, companies can no longer afford to miss out.

If you don't want others knowing things about you, DON'T POST THEM and then proceed to wonder how people found out!
As far as companies are concerned, they'd be insane not to at least try to market through twitter / facebook because SO many people are on there! If you're trying to expand, it'd be silly to ignore that part of the market. Using twitter / facebook as a tool is the key. Just beware of abuse and misuse!-----

Re: Do you use Twitter?
I feel like Twitter is just a piece of Facebook pulled out and set to become independent. I don't know everything about Twitter, but from seeing other people's Twitter pages and hearing about it on the news I don't think it's appealing. One of my friend stopped using Facebook and use Twitter exclusively, I call him Qwitter

Re: Do you use Twitter?
I don't use either. I thought originally Twitter sounded like texting 500 of your best friends at one time, which some teenagers do, except using a computer instead of a phone. And since I never got into the texting hype, I didn't see the reason to.
I guess the difference between this and texting is that texting can't be traced so easily. Whoever runs Twitter can keep records, just like Facebook has announced. However trivially you use it, it could be an invasion of your privacy.
Maybe someone can answer this, since MOL is now on Twitter, have those of you who use it learned anything new or gotten any special deals you wouldn't have gotten otherwise?

Re: Do you use Twitter?
If I remember correctly, Facebook attempted to buy Twitter. Twitter turned them down, which gave birth to Facebook creating the News Feed. Now both sites are focused on microblogging.

Following a music artist allows the fans to directly connect to the artist in a more direct manner - this has been almost unattainable before!
Following @CarConnection can give you breaking news in the car world - new models, new reviews, recalls.
I follow @RIDOTNews to get the latest accident reports for the Rhode Island area.
This is a snapshot of how I use twitter on a day-to-day basis...-----

Re: Do you use Twitter?
If I joined I would probably use it that way, just to follow, not to "contribute." I think if I blog and want to share it, I will do it on a web site I can control.
Just curious, is a lot of personal identifying information about yourself, like address, phone number, email address, etc. required for you to join?

Many people do this and just "follow" others as a source of instant news and a source of information, so you would not be alone!
The only "information" that is required is your email, which is not displayed to other users. It allows other people to search for you on Twitter if they know your email, but not the other way around - no users can get your email unless you give it to them directly. They also ask for your Name (which can be a first name or even a nickname) and then you choose a user name and password.
If you do try it out, though, give it a couple weeks. Don't try it and give up after a day. Some people "hate" Twitter simply because they are not following the right people - people that they are actually interested in receiving updates from!
Enjoy.
