  • Where To Vacation?

Hey guys, my family has been going to the Destin/Panama City area of Florida for the past 12 years now. Unfortunately with the Oil disaster, I don't think we will be able to go their this year. I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for my family in Florida. Obviously it has to be somewhat distant from the oil impacts, but where are the family friendly areas farther down on the coast that you guys enjoy?

My family just likes good seafood, peaceful not ridiculously crowded beach, and we have to see the beach/ocean from our condo. We have stayed at a 21 story high rise for the past 12 years.

    Re: Where To Vacation?

My family has vacationed in Ocean Isle Beach South Carolina (north myrtle beach) for several years. It is on the intercoastal waterway so you cna do watersports (ei jetski, kayak) Ocean front condos are available, the beach is never crowded. Close enough to myrtle beach that you can still do the tourist trap stuff but the island is quiet and relaxing. Excellent golf and great seafood in Calabash just up the road. You are also close to Willmington NC. We all really like it for a nice beach vacation.

Yeah, Myrtle Beach is always a favorite.

And can always stop by Wilmington NC on the way down to tour a battleship....

After 12 years and an oil spill, time to give the left coast a visit. Silver Strand State Beach, Coronado, CA

Yeah guys thanks for all of the suggestions! I will have to do some research on Myrtle Beach. It sounds like there are condos/resorts near Myrtle Beach, but a little far from the craze. That is what my family likes and has been doing between Destin & Panama:

Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the Myrtle Beach shoreline, Prince Resort stands as a distinctive North Myrtle Beach resort, offering both inspiration and tranquility in a single breath. Nestled at a historic location, it provides a unique experience f

Stayed there 2 years ago, quite nice, little bit up away from everything, but about 10 minutes from the Calabash mentioned above.

Wow, that's exactly what I am looking for. Thanks Man. I was looking on google maps and youtube for beaches near Myrtle Beach. I found quite a few islands and beaches near Myrtle and Hilton Head too.

I'm with clearly here, switch it up and visit the Pacific. You could try to swing up to Meguiar's in Irvine on a Thursday during your stay too

Here is a picture of San Clemente. The water is warm, not gulf warm, but about 68-70 which feels awesome when it is 75 and sunny out!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                Remove swirls my friends.

Yeah, there is loads of them. The Cherry Grove area, and North Myrtle are good key words.

There is always farther down the west coast of Florida. Clearwater South. The experts say that for the most part the loop currents should minimize the beaches in these ares. Of course there is always the East coast of Florida.

Yeah, my parents seem to want to stay with the Florida. I should look into Clearwater and my parents loved Palms Beach a few years back.

I have been to Corpus Christi, Texas a couple of times and it is great. Down around North Padre Island and on south, the beach is super. It might be further than you want to travel but it is really a nice area and lots of seafood.

The Sarasota area has beautiful beaches. Then farther south you have Fort Meyers and Naples. Very nice vacation areas.

You could come to Kansas! I used to leve in Tampa and we would go to Clearwater beach a few times a month. Great place and tons of things to do. I have also been to Padre Island for spring break so most of my time was on the beach or in a club.

Or Nebraska. With all of the rain the last couple of weeks, flooding is making temporary lakes everywhere. It's also been hot - today is supposed to be 94.
