Need help, trunk wont open

when i hit the trunk release button inside the car and on the alarm you hear the lever move but the trunk wont open, i can open the trunk with my key and when i look at the lever when i hit the trunk release buttons you can see the lever move, any suggestions on why the trunk wont open??

What if someone is lifting up on the truck while you push the button. Will it open then?

Have you tried posting it on the forum that is specific to your make? They often can point you to the solution much quicker.
Plus, see you can get the service manual and study the part in question. This may help you in fixing the issue.

I would enlist in the help of a friend. Hit the button and have your friend lift the trunk. The gasket could be stuck.

i figured it out last night, it was a piece of carpet, it got stuck inside the lock and then i pushed this piece up on the lock and boom it worked, thanks everyone for your responses

yeah me to, i wasnt looking forward to having the trunk release mechanism replaced.

Along those same lines...Suddenly my Saturn's trunk would not open with the interior switch. One dealer ordered a replacement latch but befor it arrived I went to another dealer and wala!!! There is a valet switch inside the trink on the lid. When in the valet position the interior switch is dead. Some how the latch in the trunk got changed over to the valet position. Kicker is....I have had this car for 6 years and never knew that trunk switch was there!!

Thats an odd place for it, my valet lock is on the floor by the release.

Nonetheless, I guess thats why they started making those instruction manual things I have heard so much about. I might try reading one some day.

I agree. Likely with the valet thing... unless you read it in the manual prior to it happening you'd have no idea that it was a feature vs. a fault. I probably would have been checking fuses.

I usually read my instruction manuals for everything I buy, use the thing for a while and then read the manual again. It's interesting some of the things you pick up on. Often the information is useless until the point that it triggers a thought like "oh yah, I remember reading something about a switch".

The reasoning for haveing a "kill switch" IN the trunk is so a valet can not get into the trunk. He should only be supplied with the "valet key" which will not open the trunk. Owners' Manual? Oh yeah.......that big book in the glove compartment I guess.
