Yes, as I said, everything was tried before this. I have about 10 different methods for cleaning leather and none of them even scratched the surface of this. Now I have 11 different methods of cleaning leather

As I said, APC directly to the surface, and even using a magic eraser with the APC did nothing!

After the M105 treatment, the leather was soaked with Leatherique for 4 days, then removed with Pristine Clean.

Dude. Seriously? And after we talked about this and I asked you not to post this here???

No, I'm just kidding. I knew you were going to post this up as I know nothing can hold you back when you're on a roll - even a crazy one........ just a bit shocked that you actually mentioned brushing your teeth with M105 though!!

When we talked about this on the phone you mentioned that the M105 was hand applied with a foam pad, correct? And that you were planning on following the M105 with something to ensure you left nothing behind that could dry white later on. We're curious what you actually used for the follow up.

In all seriousness, the soil must have actually permeated into the leather coating and couldn't be removed without using an abrasive and taking off part of the coating, but jumping to 105, I mean do you think you could have tried a milder abrasive first, like 80? Would 80 maybe have worked? Okay it's too late now, but in case someone else runs into this, please do try some lesser aggressive abrasive first just like you would for your paint, if you find yourself in a situation of needing an abrasive on leather.

I dont think it was so much the abrasives in M105 but the solvents/chemical cleaners in it. After all he did say he used APC with a magic eraser pad and that by itself should be more aggressive than M105. If a water based cleaner like APC wouldnt remove it I know for sure a solvent based cleaner would but then you run the risk of damaging the finish also.

Odds are that there is no real "coating" to speak of on the leather here. This is Italian coachbuilding circa 1962 - the hides would have been tanned and dyed, and that's about it. We would have been more concerned about taking the color off the leather more than anything else.

Nick, you're a very brave guy.

Maarten, thanks for the clarification on the follow up to M105 here.

My point remains the same, common sense would dictate start with a less aggressive abrasive if you are planning to use an abrasive on leather. It was my nice way of saying "Nick, you're insane!!"Okay I said it. Now I feel better.

If the soil couldn't be removed by chemical methods, it was probably embedded in the coating or the hide itself. It may in fact take a light abrasive to do it, but I would definitely start with something milder than 105, maybe not even a car product but something like silver polish, and work my way up.

He did start with milder products, that didn't work.

We were working on the 1962 Maserati Gran Turismo, and nothing, I mean nothing was budging this 60 years of dirt ground into the leather! We tried every leather cleaner possible, and NOTHING made a dent! Even APC and Magic Eraser!

                            Haha, that is awesome!!

This reminds me of technical support problems I run into. When I hang out with a group of my technical friends, everyone loves to make suggestions thinking they haven't been tried already yet. But they have.

Same thing here Sounds like everyone wants to make suggestions.

Nick, could you do them a favor and post what you had tried briefly?
