  • Traveling to LA

So I will be on a little business trip to LA next week. Flying into LAX, and the hotel and company are right by LAX, so no car rental or anything.

Anyone have any ideas about restaraunts in the area? Also curious about public beaches, cost of cab fare? Not really sure how much time I'll have to do anything, or if they'll keep me busy and just have time to eat.

Sadly it wont be over a Saturday.....

    Cool...

Check into Venice Beach or Santa Monica Beach.

Both are fairly close to LAX and offer lots of places to eat, relax, enjoy the sun, and people watch

      Re: Traveling to LA

North of LAX is Santa Monica's Downtown & 3rd Street Promenade - a nice place to stop, shop, and eat. Close to the beach too. Me and a friend of mine who works a block away from this shopping area ate at Wolfgang Puck Express (Wolfgang is a renowned chef). It was a good eat, and the place as a whole had a good atmosphere.

I can't speak for cab fare since I've never used a taxi before (and rates may be different from what I remember in Las Vegas), but from LAX, it's just going up and down Lincoln Blvd./Pacific Highway 1 to get there. Something to consider.

Shows about 8 miles from LAX when you type it in.... looks further on the maps. Cool.

If you got time, be sure to visit Meguiars. About 1 hr from LAX.

The 8 miles you refer to is at least a 45 min. drive on a sunny afternoon

                How about a sunny evening?

Depends on the time of day, but it seems like there is traffic in LA all the time

                    Re: Traveling to LA

For fast food, snag some in n out, there is some right by LAX. Cabs can be pretty pricey, but not too bad if you are going with other people. I believe it is about 50 bucks from LAX to downtown.

One thing to be aware of is traffic. I go to USC, and like mike said, there seems to always be traffic. To avoid traffic, I would stray from going towards downtown LA.

If you have time during the day, I would suggest going to Venice Beach, but if you are going to go at night time, go to Santa Monica.

If you do have some time to make it towards downtown there is LA Live which is pretty cool. There are lots of restaurants and cool places to walk around at. Check it out at

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                    Remove swirls my friends.

                      For a 20-40 minute ride

                      I'd take a bus.

The hotel appears to have a free shuttle to Manhattan beach... Probably will do that one night to save a few bucks... Definatley want to do Venice beach, even if a little pricey of a ride. Might be a better transport, but there will at least be a cab easily enough.

Too bad you won't be able make a trip down to our offices while you're out here. Being such a huge fixture here on MOL and all, we'd think you'd try your best to make the trip down.

Maybe even more unfortunate is that Mike Pennington will be on vacation and yours truly will be in Michigan for a combination short vacation/business trip combo so we'd both miss you anyway.

Yeah.... couldnt talk the boss into an extra day for car detailing as a trip expense... And definatley had to make time for the beach

Would have had a bit more freedom with a rental car as well.

Hopefully will get sent back again for some reason.
