  • The Screaming Banana lives

The insurance company sent out an adjuster to the shop yesterday. I got the call today that the car is going to be fixed. I haven't had a chance to talk to the shop yet, but it'll be interesting to see why they chose to fix it instead of totalling it out.

I talked to the shop and they said the adjuster's estimate was $5,600 and they were allowing a $1,400 'window' up to $7K for new damage discovered during repair (any additional costs need to be justified though, so much for the limited slip diff I was looking at ).

But I was starting to look forward to trying to get an SRT-4 though

Thats good... They can really do a good job I would sure think that they caould get the car back to good as new. Sometimes you don't know why they decide what they do.

I know someone that took his Jeep Wrangler (several years old but in MINT condition!) to a Goodyear to get new shocks, they cought the jeep on fire with a cutting torch. Didn''t total it but it need ALL new interior, paint, soft top, wiring, spare tire the list went on and on. Including a months worth on a full size chevy truck rental it was $11,000 or $12,000 later it was fixed and the bill was over the blue book.

About 14 years ago I flipped and rolled a Nissan truck. I was sure it was totalled, but the insurance company wanted to fix it (almost $7k for a truck that retailed for around $10k 4 years earlier). I was unsure, but when I got the truck back I was sure that it was actually BETTER than it was before the accident.

As the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way.

Similar thing happened to me with a Camaro I owned in the 80's. A girl ran a red light and I t-boned her. The hood of my car had rusted really bad along the leading edge and I didn't have the money to replace it. Thanks to the accident, I had a nice new Z-28 hood installed and apparently new suspension pieces because I KNOW it was better than before the accident when I got it back.
