  • Cat Pheromones in #83?

About two months ago, a cat tried to get on my car. A black car. To be specific, a black car with legendary soft honda paint.

Since I just polished my car, the hood was slick and you can very well guess what happened. My newly polished hood looked like it just hosted an NHL game.

Anyway, I managed to scare away the cat with a well aimed stone.

I refrained from repolishing until I was sure the cat won't return. In the mean time, I just had to make do with a bit of ColorX and NXT2.0.

Fast forward to last weekend. I finally decided to break out the DACP to correct the hood defect. As I was running my polisher on the hood... guess what I heard! MEOOOWWWWW.... purrrr..... Mweewwwwww... purrr

That stupid cat was already lurking in the garden, and was moving in a way like hyenas wait for the lion to leave behind the zebra it just slew. What the hey!?

I managed to chase away the pest, and so far, it left my car alone. For now....

Is there something in #83 that's attracting this feline?

    Sorry about that.. just ranting...

I hate to break the news to you, but that cat just wants to kick it on your car.

There is not much you can do if your vehicle is parked outside. I know it stinks to come out to your car to see muddy cat paw prints all over a car that was freshly clean. Cats are considered critters, therfore, there is no law that prohibits them from roaming freely. Wisconsin considers "free roaming feral" cats as unprotected, thus is legal to shoot them.

If the cat has a collar on it, then obviously it belongs to somebody, and they would be hurt if their cat was killed. If this cat is a free roaming feral cat, one thing you can do, is to set a trap for it. Once you trap it, you can drive it to the nearest animal shelter. Or you can drive it 30-40 miles away, and leave it

On the other hand, if this cat came up to you, or near you and started purring, it's prolly someones pet. You could talk to the owner, and tell them that their cat is damaging your car. If the problem persists, think about trapping it, and driving it to the animal shelter, then make sure the owner knows. It is legal to trap a cat on your own property.

Oh, I just saw your profile. I don't know the laws in the Philippines regarding free roaming/feral cats, or cats that are pets.

To me it is like rain. When your car is clean, it rains. It also attracts everything. lol.

          Hahaha true.

What really bugs the heck out of me is that the cat never bothers 'visiting' my car when the paint is already dirty and needs claying / cleaning (i.e. the paint is already rough and it won't have a hard time clambering up the hood). It always waits until I polish up the paint. It's as if nature has some kind of law against polishing black cars, and the cat is the law enforcer.

Also, I'm pretty sure it's a stray cat. And I'm also sure that our neighbor is feeding it scraps. That's why it likes to lurk in our block.

Depending where you are in the Philippines, the cat could be dinner...

Trap it, drive it 20-30 or so miles away, problem solved.

Adopt it. Make it an inside-only cat.

You'll save the life of an animal, and keep your car clean.

I think cats have a special sense that allows them to read your mind....they always seem to climb up on thing you don't want them to! My cat always climbs up on my mail, laptop, or anything he sees me doing he feels he wants to be a part of.

My dad does that with racoons. Takes them to the rich neighborhood down the road and lets them out there.

Sorry your car got scratched but being a cat lover would hate to see any harm come to the cat. The best place for a cat is in the safety of indoor living! You might try moth balls around the area where you park. Cats hate to get anything on their paws and they hate to walk on reynolds wrap. I had a problem with pigeons in my work parking garage and I fashioned a winged bird out of reynolds wrap on my short antena. It worked and kept the pigons off my Honda. Guess they thought it was some really wild looking bird. All my friends teased me about it but hey it worked!

I dunno... I've all but given up trying to find a 'final solution' for this problem.
I just view the stray cat as a natural calamity like typhoons and acid rain. When it strikes, there ain't much I can do about it but rant...then polish...then rant again...then move on.

The ranting helps a lot with my coping.

Oh.. believe it or not, but I also tried the relocation solution some years ago. It didn't work. Around 5 years ago, my car was being menaced by an striped orange and white female cat with a crooked tail. I befriended the cat until it allowed me to pet her...took a while and a lot of hair+scratches on my car. Once I earned her trust, I placed her in a sack, then drove off 100km away. I set her free beside the canteen of a factory where she can engorge on the scrap food. Two years later, I saw her again on my frikkin car! Same orange and white stripe. Same crooked tail! Sigh. I guess those stories I hear about the cat's phenomenal sense of direction is true.

I've a feeling that the cat that's attacking my car now is her offspring.
