Well put Mosca. I agree that the site isn't designed to be altruistic, to use your wording. I enjoy the advice I get from the site on using Meguiar's products. I also think it's relevant and appropriate to have people mention other products that they might have switched from. Please keep the site open and relaxed and keep the great advice flowing.

I think Mike has been more than fair in handling posts with dissenting viewpoints, even when the poster is being somewhat obnoxious. And yes, he should be able to disagree with critical comments, and to defend products that he, and most MOL members, believe in. That does not mean MOL has no credibility. What a ridiculous thing to say!

As Mosca alluded to, Meguiar's is a MANUFACTURER sponsored forum, Autopia is not. It is an inappropriate comparison. Since I like analogies as much as Mosca, if you go into your local supermarket, and start telling passers-by "I like Coke...I like Coke", people may think you are a bit strange, but that's about it. If you were to go into Pepsi headquarters, and start telling passers-by "I like Coke...I like Coke", you will be asked to leave. Not that it's not alright to like Coke, it's just about choosing the proper forum to express it in.

                hey Frank'
Mike has offered an olive branch of peace.

                hey Mike,

your a better man than me to have made such a benevolent offer.
it just proves what i have seen and what others have said about you and MOL.

In an effort to extend to you an olive branch of peace, because you say you don't like our NXT Tech Wax, are their some products in our line that you do like that I can send you as a goodwill gesture on our part?

You let me know and I will do everything in my power to accommodate you.

                Sincerely,

Hey Mike, I'm glad you were so willing to take up my suggestion about the Forum Rules.

I hope it didn't sound like criticism. I was only thinking from the point of view of making obvious, what really should already be common courtesy.

If an individual fails to apply what should be obvious, then they can't say, "I didn't know", or, "I looked but couldn't find them". No excuses.

I know that all of us here are given considerable latitude in expressing ourselves about products, and likes and dislikes. I believe we do enjoy free speech on this forum, and I don't believe there's a need to tighten the administration of the Rules, such as not mentioning competitors products. If this is done diplomatically and with respect and courtesy, I see no issue.

Manifestly obvious hostility, though, should not be allowed.

To paraphrase one of our local Police Commissioners, "We don't expect citizens to always stick to the letter of the law, as long as they abide by the spirit of the law. But if a citizen deliberately and continuously flaunts the spirit of the law, then they'll feel the weight of the letter of the law."

In this way things operate in a reasonable, flexible, free and orderly way, where everyone's rights are respected.

I believe we enjoy that on MOL, and see no reason to change it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, did I see "Alfisti" as from the other company?

At any rate, even if he is, he knows how to be polite... even in a foreign land...

I'm not sure if I understand your question, but if you're asking if I work for one of Megs' competitors, then, no I don't.

I have a small car detailing business in Australia and use many products, including Megs.

There is a way to say why you do or why you don't like certain products. If you like a Meguiars product over a competitor's product, a comment like:

"Megs XXX gives better results when I'm trying to (whatever it is you're trying to do) than So and So's product X"

or even the opposite: "Such and such left a smoother finish than Megs # XX"

or even a little more extreme: "I haven't had any luck with Megs, but products X, Y and Z have given me good results."

The pro Megs posts may result in replys offering tips on how to get even better results, the non-favorable Megs posts (posted in the above manner) will most likely result in a flood of replys trying to help you get the results you want using the Megs products and try to discover the reasons behind the less than stellar results you have been getting with Megs.

PS: I got slapped on the wrist by one of the moderators for the use of a certain adjective I used in describing the results I had just obtained. I said "D" good, and he went in and editted my post to just 'good' then told me about it afterwards.

SO WHAT!! I slipped, and he caught me. Did I take it personally even though it was a minor thing? NO! I fully expect to be deleted or banned if I start trash talking ANYTHING, even competitors or their products.

There are ways of expressing your opinions that result in either long threads containing tons of useful information, or deleted threads resulting in someone being banned.

I choose the long threads with the info.

Criticism, not at all! We welcome suggestions and adding the forum rules to each forum is something we had talked about but hadn't taken the time to do yet.

Thank you for you comments and suggestions!

I thought you work for the other "M" company, coz I saw your post regarding their "new" products. I admit, am awaiting them. I have good experience with their products too. There were some which are my favorites, just like my meg's favorites.

Anyway, when I said "from a foreign land" what I actually mean is a foreign forum, that was when I thought you work for other company. I asked: "What is this guy doing in a competitor's forum?" But I don't see him bashing meg's products though. So I asked, did I see you in the other company's forum posting the new products? With that I just mean, are you working for them? At any rate, even if you work for them, you still know how to make good with the people from a competitor's forum, and that I --->

But you just clarified you don't work for them.

I've posted pictures here that not only included Meguiars products but other company's products added to the process as well. No one has deleted the threads or asked me to remove the pictures.

When I met Mike out on California he was certainly open to discussion on the other product lines I use.

I dunno about anyone else, but I came here to talk mostly about using Megs products....I use them almost exclusively, and have great results. I can't say as I've ever seen something deleted due to talk of using another brand product . Oh well, cant please all the people all the time! I for one say to Meg's and especially the mods & admin here-keep up the good work!
