We shall see, but when a body shop owner who has cut two wrecked cars in half and made one good one (on more than one occasion) says he thinks its toast...

Besides, I don't think even Mike has access to enough #83 to buff it all out.

If they total it, you can use it to practice on with a rotary buffer! Unless of course you already know how to use one. I didn't recall if you were a rotary user or not.

After seeing all the damage, it is amazing that you were not seriously injured! But the car did it's job, it sacrificed itself and saved you from serious injury!

I hate to say it Don, but that car will be a loss without a doubt.

I was hit in the rear two years go in my saturn SC2 (loved that car!)

The damage was not near that bad.... the book on the car was around $3500... they stopped adding up the numbers when the price of the repairs went to $5k. My car was shortened two inches, crushed quarters and all, but I drove it for a week in that condition.... but then I got the miata.

Your banana is most likeley gone, but everything happens for a reason, your next car might just be the ride of your dreams.

So you're saying your car went out in a BLAZE of glory?

FYI...the damage estimate is now up to $6,600, with the body shop saying there could be at least another $1,000 once they start tearing into things and doing the work (assuming the Ins doesn't total it out)

I'm a big fan of persevering till the end, but I think the end is here...

Even if they do a great job of fixing it, your car will never be the same.

Hey Don, glad you are ok!

Like Mike said, I probably wouldn't want a car fixed after that kind of damage. Cars are expensive and we love 'em, but they are consumables. A lot of things can happen to them that just can't be fixed properly.

And like Mosca said, do some looking into values on your car. Hopefully you won't end up upside down on it.

The body shop's NADA book says my car is worth $9,000 minus about $800 for the high mileage.

However, I did a search, and taking 5 cars that are the the same year & model as mine, all with higher mileage. The average mileage was 64,000, with an average asking price of $7,300 (From Auto Trader.com).

As of Friday, the damage estimate had risen to $6,600 with the shop saying that there will likely be at least another $1,000 in damage discovered once repairs are started (IF repairs are started), which will take the damage amount over the average asking price of the car.

I still owe mid $7,000 on the car, so we will have to wait and see. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll here something tomorrow.
