  • Meguiar's at Long Beach Grand Prix Media Day

You may have seen our thread on preparing the race cars for the Toyota Celebrity Race at the upcoming Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach HERE; well, yesterday those cars got put to use on the track during Media Day. Of course, Meguiar's is a major sponsor of the event so we had to be on hand to keep the cars looking good for the cameras, and there were plenty of cameras out and about!

More information on the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is available HERE

We got started just after 6:00AM, and this is what were faced with: Is that matte black paint?

No, it's dew. And we had to get that dew off of 25 cars while morning temperatures hovered around 45 degrees. You know, that ends up being a lot of water! Cold water!!

But the sun did come out, and along with it, the stars.

Here's Adrian Brody and Keanu Reeves having a bit of fun sharing stories of their on track adventures.

Tanner Foust is one of the Pro Racers for the event this year. He was pulling double duty this year though as he'll also be competing in the Team Drifting Challenge.

Brian Austin Green is taking part in the Celebrity Race this year.

Adrian Brody waves as he rolls out for his first practice laps on the closed course.

Megyn Price points out the Meguiar's logo on her racing overalls.

As the celebrity racers get fired up, the media guys can't resist a close up of the exhaust.

All lined up and waiting for the green to get on track.

On track action, with the Queen Mary in the background.

The final complex of corners before heading onto the main straight.

An overview of the pit area, with the Pace Cars taking on passengers for high speed runs around the track. That's the Aquarium of the Pacific in the background.

A few of the World Challenger racers were on hand as well, including Patrick Dempsey.

The drift cars took their turn on track, smoking up the place! That's Tanner Foust in the yellow and black car.

Rhys Millen's drift car gets cleaned up in the pits - yep, they're using UQD!!

I got to finish off the day with a ride in one of the Pace Cars. I must say, the Toyota Camry is quite a comfortable ride, even at 110mph or when bouncing off the curbing through a hard corner!

Nope, just very well done murals. Here's a close up, taken with a 300mm lens:

Not a ton - suspension, brakes, lighter wheels, and all the safety gear of course (full cage, safety harness, etc). They were still pretty softly sprung, and it was a bit strange sitting down in a nice, comfy leather seat and then pulling in the harness from all angles, only to blast down the main straight and bounce over the curbing in every corner!!

Trust me Andy, it wasn't for a lack of trying!! One of the "chauffeurs" failed to show up for the last round, so I mentioned that I had some track experience and would be willing to fill in for him. Nobody even laughed, although one young lady who was waiting her turn for a ride heard this and her eyes got just HUGE!!!!
