  • It's rubbing off on the wife!

Yesterday as we were driving my wife looks over at this H2 beside us and lets out a sigh of disgust. My initial thought was she was expressing her dislike of the Hummer.

Of course, not wanting to ignore her, I asked her what the problem was and was bracing myself for a rant about ugly oversized trucks and their impact on the environment. Much to my surprise she says "Who ever did the last detail on that Hummer did a sloppy job. It looks like they left the excess dressing on the rear tire and it dripped all over the paint on the tail gate. And those wheel wells are filthy too!"

That cracked me up! Then she goes on to say how she used to never notice things on other people's cars, but now she can't help but see all the dirty imperfect cars we pass. Of course, she blames me for it, but I figure if this is the worst thing I have to take the blame for, I'm in good shape

LOL, I had the same thing with the GF. She made a noise one day and then commented on all of the swirls, scratches and holograms on this black Durango parked directly in the sun at the gas station. Granted, you could hardly tell it was black it was so bad. She notices all of that stuff now too and will point out cars that are particularly bad.

When we walked out of the restaurant we were at, I commented that I either needed new mud flaps or I could try ti dye the ones I have I first. They're looking washed out and I don't think cleaning them is going to be enough. My wife was surprised to learn that you can indeed dye auto trim. Later that night she tells me she should not know that and neither should I

We were going down the highway, and a car was coming up to pass us on the left. My husband said he wanted to know if I could detail this car coming by. It passed us, and this car had paint on less than half of the body! It was patchy bare metal mostly on the upper half. I had to laugh at that. At least he is aware of bad paint on a broad scale!

My wife and 2 daughters all make comments about other peoples paint when we are out driving. I think it is comical.

My wife and I stopped for gas one afternoon and, after I filled the tank and got back in the car, she just sat there staring at me. "What?", I said. She pointed out the window to the guy wiping something off the hood of his car using just a paper towel from the window cleaning station. "Aren't you going to go tell that guy that he'll mess up the paint on his Porsche doing that?"

            Yep, that's my girl!!!

Did you tell him you could wash the bare metal and polish the heck out of the rest?

Of course not, you were off the clock :p

I can admit that even though her eyes glaze over, I like knowing she's hearing me. Now if I can just get her to QD her truck that sits under a tree all day and is a birdie target, I'd be REALLY happy.

I think I stepped into the Twilight Zone this morning. My wife asked me for a bottle of QD and some towels so she could get the bird bombs off her truck today :O

Tonight I will have to show her how to use the water and towel to moisten the dry stuff and clean up afterwards. I know, there shouldn't be any dry stuff, but I have been slacking lately.

Hopefully the weather holds, my homework is caught up and I feel good enough to get after the cars this weekend

With the right product, you probably could have polished the metal too

My Wife and I with some friends of ours were comming back from Branson, when the topic came up about what to use on scuff marks on the door. Before I could get the words out of my mouth of what works for me, my wife starts telling them about Me knowing all the numbers of Meguiars, and what works best on different types of problems. When She started telling them what would work on their car, all I could do was sit and smile.

I used to never notice bad detail jobs until I started being OCD about my Pilot. It kinda makes me ill to see some of the cars riding around, because I know it could look 75% better with just a wash....even if it is from the "swirl-o-matic"

My husband thinks it is hilarious.

Jenn, living here in Dallas I know you see this all the time...

Pull up to a stop light, you're two or three cars back in the center lane. You're boxed in on all sides by very expensive cars. Every single one of them is filthy and looks like it's never been washed. Makes me sad. I can't seek paying 40K+ for a car and then not taking care of it.

My wife is similar. Guy was going to give me some car wash that he had laying around- and wanted to get rid of. My wife looked at me and asked, "What brand?"
