  • Meguiar's "Secret Codes"

Being bored always leads to something else. Here's my something else for the night. Just out of complete curiosity, anyone know what these codes are for? No, if you go and pick up your can or bottle, you won't see these in regular light, which is why it is all the more intriguing to me, lol. Found them on a few other things too.

One code that is usually on the back of the products is the batch numbers and when it was made. Not sure about the other ones if there are more than one set of numbers/letters.

Are those showing up with a black light?

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
      Remove swirls my friends.

looks like batch code/date code. I bet Meguiars checks them if anyone ever has a problem with the product and sends it back, and made it invisible to make the packaging not have the numbers all over it?

Those numbers are on everthing. Skynet is going to use them for identification.

Yup. I found my blacklight while going through stuff, and started goofing around with it. Here's the results, lol.

See, the only thing is, I thought the batch code was visible under normal lighting, so if you have an issue and Meguiar's asks for the batch code to check, you can actually find it. It does sound like something of what you are describing though either way.

Hmmmm It's even weirder now that this is post 3,333 for me. Some strange things are afoot!

Sorry, nothing more covert or sinister than simple batch/production codes. Your car has a VIN and basically so does your bottle of product. Simple as that.

Perhaps the trickier explanation is why you were playing with a black light in the garage to begin with.

LOL, what garage? Hehe. Either way, pretty clever way of doing it I suppose! Nice job DejaVu!

Are they invisible for testing authenticity of returned products or just so its not distracting on the label?

The other thing was I didn't notice it on all products, only the above and then like 1 more. Perhaps this is done on more recent packaging?

Most excellent...another "Prisoner" fan. My wife got me the entire series on DVD for my birthday last year.
