    Re: Question about car engines

I've got a Chevy 305 in my Cutlass. 5.0 litre V8, its got an embarassing number of horsepower, but laystorque down to get this heavy hunk of metal going. It doesn't accelerate fast or having an amazing top speed, but it is smooth and extremely consistant, even at 90+mph (not that I would ever go that fast ).

      Re: Question about car engines

One of the biggest advances is in the design of cylinder heads. Many auto makers are coming out with variable valve timing which can increase HP dramatically. Most cylinder blocks are the same as they were 50 yrs or more ago. Manufacturers are playing around with the number of valves per cylinder etc. There are volumes that could be written as to why certain engines make certain amounts of power.
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?
