  • More bad news...

Since my back surgery in January, I've stayed in constant back pain. I didn't believe that there was something physically wrong with me because I had just had back surgery. I figured it was just in my head and there was nothing really wrong with me. Dr kept telling me that post surgery pain was very normal, and not to get worried. I deprived myself of pain medication because I didn't think the pain was real, and maybe it would just go away.

Well, had an MRI last week and no good news. The spinal canal at my L4/L5 is at 6mm Dr said the extreme low is 10mm, and the extreme high is 12mm. So at 6mm, I guess I have some problems. The problem is another bulging disk. It's protruding into the spinal canal and irritating the ligament in the spinal canal causing it to swell. This in turn creates the pain that I've been having all this time

So whats the solution? Yep, another surgery This mean more down time and more lost wages and more financial stress. Since my relationship with my ex went south, and I've been the one having to pay the mortgage and all the bills myself, my financial situation has been pretty bad. I've been able to pay my bills and stay a float, but there is no savings anymore and no "fun" money. I just don't know if I can financially go through another surgery. I don't know if I can financially afford to live another 3 months with no income. I guess I could sell my house to reduce my debt, but my house is VERY important to me. This is the first house I've bought on my own. This is my home! I know my truck will have to go. As much as I love it, it's gonna have to go to relieve the financial burden. I can just drive the van full time, although it's gonna be hard to get in and out of it after the surgery.

Sorry, guess I'm just venting. Just don't know what to do. Dr said if I just wait and put it off, it's gonna continue to get worse and worse until I am in too much pain to walk, so I've got to get something done.

    Merry Christmas!

I thought I had it bad. Are you making payments on the truck? If so, it would be a good move to sell it. Sounds like another back surgery is in order. It sounds like there is no alternative to having your back fixed, cause like you said, it will get worse until it gets fixed.

If things are bad now, it would be worse if your health and well being deteriorate.

You're gonna have to bite the bullet, and do whatever it takes to get your back/spinal cord fixed.

    Peace out brotha

      Sad news to hear Nick.

I'm with you on one thing, your house is your house, I've always thought that you get rid of it on the LAST resort, if you can get rid of other things, do that, but you will still have a roof over your head.

I really do wish you the best my friend. Please keep up posted

Sorry to hear the bad news Nick. Seems like it happens more often during the Holiday's.
I don't know what to say except to hang in there brother.
I'd like to say that all of this would come to pass and that the wax would be shinier on the other side, but with these things you just never know.

For what it's worth I truely do hope you have a good Christmas and New Years.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the words.

I really don't know what I'm gonna do about all of this. I know I can't just keep popping pills and working as much as I do. Somethings gotta change. It's gonna be hard to sell the truck, I've worked so hard to buy it, and keep it, but the financial relief is going to be needed. Guess there comes a time in our lives when we need to make "grown up" decisions

Better to let the truck go now than lose it on the long run
Keep your head up Nick, think things calmly, I know you'll make the right decision.

I don't think the truck is even an option at this point. If I have to go to surgery(which looks like a 99% chance that I will), then the truck is gone

Spinal Stenosis is what I have. Here is a link to better describe it...

Dang Nick, this was not what I was hoping to see when I opened the thread.

I know how much you have already endured because of that injury, and now you must be ready to your in the towel with this news.

I know things can't possibly look "up" at all now, but try your best to stay positive wherever possible...I'm sure things will turn out for the best for you at some point.

If you want to vent, you know where to find me.

                  Take care buddy.

Nick, I am very sorry to hear that you are going through all of this. I know it seems hard but hang in there man. Things will get better. I know what you mean by financial strains and hardship but trust me it will get better. Everything will seek it's own level. The most important thing is to take care of your health. Hang in there brother.

Wow Nick, I'm sorry to hear the bad news. One of my best friends owned his own welding shop ever since he was out of high school and the same kind of thing happened to his back because he was always lifting heavy steel.

He had one surgery and still have problems, a few years later he had surgery again and I spoke with him on the phone and he said the second time around whatever they did worked and he's back to work with no pain but he also lets the young guys lift all the heavy steel.

                            So stay positive...

                              Hey Nick

My mom is going through the same thing right now and you have my total empathy. Sounds like you have what she has - Spinal Stenosis? My mom went through a surgery 5 years ago and I know from her rehab how painful the recovery can be. And now she has to go in for a 2nd surgery early next year and we're all concerned for her because of her age.

Maybe you could establish a partnership with an experienced detailer, someone you can trust. Have him do the actual work and you provide the van, tools and materials? It would help you keep your existing client base and maybe you could run the office/admin/bookkeeping duties until you get better.

                              You're in my prayers.
