  • 2009 LA Auto Show Sneak Peek - Pic Heavy!!!

Working at Meguiar's has it's advantages, that's for sure. And that goes much, much farther than just access to cool products and an all around fun work environment. We sometimes get to see other things a bit early, or go to events, meet people, etc. Last night was one of those times, with special VIP access to the pre-opening of the Los Angeles Auto Show. Check it out.....

This was the view from the parking garage as we arrived just after 6:30PM. Yep, that's the moon rising between the buildings of downtown LA.

Once inside we started off with dinner - roast beef, turkey, sushi, build your own taco, and even a couple of dedicated Martini bars carved from solid blocks of ice. VIP treatment all the way!!

But you guys are more interested in the cars, so let's start with a couple of companies who have made huge strides in design and quality in recent years:

    The Hyundai Genesis Coupe:

The Suzuki Kizashi - this is actually a very sharp looking little car with an extremely well done interior.

VW was showing off their electric concept vehicle, the uplite:

Vehicle interiors seem to be getting nicer and nicer all the time. This is the VW CC Sedan:

Cadillac brought out the full line of CTS variants, this the new Coupe.

Caddy also showed off the Converj concept plug in hybrid. This car rides on the same platform as the Chevy Volt. If this is what future "green" cars might look like, well bring it on!

Same platform, just under Chevy guise - the Volt.

What auto show is complete without a little red Corvette - in this case, the GranSport.

How about a trio of modified Camaros?

Nice wheel treatment on this one.

Audi had a huge booth and all the cars were white, except for 3. This, the new R8 Roadster:

    What a great face!

    This the R8 V10 - yowza!

And the V10 engine under glass. Double yowza!!

And the third non-white car in Audi's booth, the e-tron electric. Sure looks like the R8, but it's actually smaller.

Who wants to clean these wheels????

BMW brought out their wild Efficient Dynamics Concept.

Mercedes AMG had the stunning new SLS Gullwing on display. Since this was a night with a limited audience, AMG opened the car up for all to enjoy.

Lexus showed off their wild LFA supercar....

.... and their LFCh concept vehicle.

Jaguar had the new XJL sedan, here on the right with the XFR on the left.

Tail end of the new XJL.

The gauge cluster is all electronic but displays analog looking instruments.

Lotus had their stunning new Evora, which was surprisingly easy to get in and out of!

Another Evora, this time in dark gray.

Spyker had the new Aileron on display.

Don't forget the custom fitted Louis Vitton luggage for the trunk!

Fisker Automotive showed off both the Sunset and Karma luxury hybrids. In case you don't know, Henrik Fisker was the designer behind the Aston Martin DB9, BMW Z8 and others.

And here I am with company founder, Henrik Fisker. He told me that he couldn't guarantee the cars he had on display had been prepped with Meguiar's products, but he said he uses Meguiar's on his own cars. What a guy!

I wish I had known you were there Michael! I was at the show (and in it) for two days.

You took some great pictures for sure. You made some of those look better than they did in person without a doubt.

Here's a few shots I've found on the internet that some media snagged of me (Sadly, I was too busy to take any pictures of my own).

Here I am during the world's first unveiling of the 2011 US-spec Ford Fiesta!

In front of the Fiesta I plan to copy when I get my own...

And this was apparently on Ford's display... I missed it.

Exellent pictures guys! This is one show that I've always wanted to attend. Maybe one day I'll be able to go out there.

          Thanks for sharing, Michael

          A few comments-

          1. Thanks for reminding me how uncool my job is.

          2. Audi and BMW finally put some cars out that I found visually appealing.

          3. That Lotus is hot! I've been drooling over the Elise for a number of years now, but suspect I may be too tall drive one comfortably. Thanks for giving me a back up dream.

            In response to your comments:

            1. Ouch. Sorry.

            2. Almost all of the new Audis are gorgeous, not just the R8. The new BMW Z4 is a great looking car, inside and out. The 5 Series GT with the funky double opening hatch back ........ hmmmm, jury is still out on that one.

            3. If you're my size (6'1" with very long legs) the Elise/Exige is a bit tricky to get in and out of. By tricky think "contortionist abilities help". The Evora, on the other hand, was quite easy to get into. Getting me out was tough though - emotionally at least!!!

Mike, no worries on the job front. I'm going to grad school in the fall. Hopefully an advanced degree will open some doors that will let me not only have a cooler job, but pay me enough to afford the Lotus

As for the Elise, you just confirmed it will be too small for me . I'm 6'2". When I competed in martial arts, I was pretty flexible (could do full splits in both directions) but I hung my gloves up years ago and I lost it. Evora, here I come

Love the wheels on the Cadillac electric! Also, that Evora is SWEEEEET. Coming to the Detroit International Auto Show?
