    Re: Computer Question!?!

Probably not helping, but sounds pretty robust for it to be hardware problems. Unless some kind of ad/spy ware, etc is also involved.

Yeah, you certainly can lose a signal, if you are already faint.

Probably is easier to lose than a cell phone signal.

Yeah wifi already isn't the most reliable method of delivery and when you use a weak signal, it's going to really frustrate you. That's the reason it's slow online.

On that note... How do you get a computer to start up faster. I have a new HP dm3-1030us with windows7 takes like 2 min to start? any help?

                Re: Computer Question!?!

Sometimes it is Windows, sometimes it is other pre-loaded programs that all have to start up. There is probably a start-up program list in Windows Defender if W7 still uses that. You can see all what is in there. The "Windows Start-up List" doesnt show what is really starting up.

I have not seen Windows 7 yet to know how it usually behaves.

Or one of your scanning programs is set to run a scan every time? And of course there is always the virus/ad/spy ware possiblity.

                      Re: Computer Question!?!

Windows Defender is not only useless IMO, but it is a major memory hog. It nearly doubled my boot time when I installed it. Getting rid of it is my vote, amongst other things that can be done.

To the OP, faint signal will generally result in low data transfer speeds, if not losing them. How far away from your wireless router are you that you can't get a signal?

also, try plugging your laptop directly to the router to test your connection. if it searches the internet fine, then it's definately your weak signal.

Mayor problem with HP/Dell/Acer and other brands of computers is that they "give you" too much programs that you don't even use and they all boot up.

On Windows, click start and on the search type msconfig. A new window will pop up and go to the Startup tab and just uncheck the programs you don't use and don't want them to start up, sometimes a good help if you won't know what the program is for just look at the location, if it's something like C:WINDOWS I would leave it alone but if the location is something like C:Program Files/HP/HP Diagnostics.exe (example) I would remove that and when you are done restart.

Here is a link for images and explaining what I'm trying to say link

                          I hope this helps
