  • Sydney, Astralia...

Ok, so I just got a couple of tickets to Sydney Australia from a co-worker(airline deal). They have to be used by April 2010. I've never been out of the country, so the obvious thing to do is get my passport...Pronto!

Anyone here been? Recomend some hotel/motels? Things to do? Anything to help me?

I went the summer before last and LOVED it. I definitely recommend the Vibe hotel in Rushcutters/Kings Cross. It is a lovely, modern hotel with a very nice staff and clean facilities. They even have an awesome pool on the roof! It's in close proximity to the Kings Cross train station, the big famous Coke sign and across the street from a bus stop in front of a Holden dealership. If you take that bus straight down you will pass a Bentley dealership, a Ferrari dealership, and a Lamborghini dealership.

Don't miss: the observation deck on Sydney Tower (if you're really brave do the Skywalk), Darling Harbor, the kangaroo steak, Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and the boat tours in the bay. Be sure to wander around the city as much as possible, its great to get lost in Sydney. Go to a bar called "The World" in Kings Cross and get a teapot, they are awesome. Ride the taxis, its so odd to sit on the left side of the car and not be driving, plus their rates are reasonable. Buy a didgeridoo, best investment ever (I bought a nice one).

I love Sydney, I would do anything to be able to go back. I went the long way (NY>London>Hong Kong>Sydney) and it took ~36 hours. Have fun on the flight. Go for first class, you will die in those little seats if you are tall like me. I assume you are going the short way (Cali>Hawaii>Sydney).

I think a good start is a Passport! Sounds like a cool trip.
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

It was about a 1:1 exchange rate when I went and everything seemed to be roughly the same price and in some cases more expensive in Sydney.

Since it will be summer, take a dip at Bondi Beach (it is pronounced Bond-eye, if you pronounce it Bond-ee you will be crucified!)
