It's german (just incase you didnt' know) and the two dots over the u is called an 'umlaut' it makes the pronunciation lower.
ex: Gunther/Günther gunther= gun-th-er Güther= goon-th-er
Hope that makes some sense.
Also in german there is an 'esset' it is a symbol for a double s in a word. ß
that's made with alt + 0223
That's used in older german text mostly.
