This from GySgt Luna in Afghanistan after I asked him what should I send-

        Who else is in?

The Afghan winter is harsh. Off the top of my head below is what I think they’ll need. The address is going to be different and as soon as I confirm it, I’ll send it to you.

        Hand warmers
        Black socks
        Cigarettes (any kind)
        Lighters
        Jerky
Pens and paper for the Afghan kids (give out during patrols)
        Coffee
Just add water hot chocolate mix
The popcorn you sent was delicious
Magazines to read or just to look at pictures

        Gracias, Jefe!

        Respectfully,
        GySgt David A. Luna

From: SgtMaj Douglas L. Smith 10/14/2009 Good Morning,

I want to first thank you for all the support you have given the servicemen and women in Afghanistan/Iraq. These young servicemen/women are incredible people who have volunteered during a time of war to fight the War on Terrorism. Americans would be amazed of the professionalism and courage these young people bring to the fight. I am very proud to serve with them. We are very grateful for the patriotic Americans like you who spend their time/money to look after us as we are deployed. This kind of support just reinforces why these young people continue to join to support our great nation.

The Marines are doing some tremendous work over here. Some are living rough, basically out of their LVT’s for the most part and are taking the fight to the Taliban. I have been in the Corps for 24 years and still marvel at Marines in combat. They are definitely living up to their legacy.

The Marines are in need of a lot of basic toiletry items. We are at the end of the line logistically, so they start to run out of things like soap, razors, and socks are worth their weight in gold-simple cotton tube socks-(over the calf type). The Marines are on the go, it is incredibly hot and they packed lots of sock, but we have trouble with water to wash them, and then we seldom slow down..Baby wipes are also a hot commodity-we never have enough of them.

Our Marines are spread out throughout the entire South of Afghanistan attached to various units. Each unit has around 100 Marines/Sailors/Soldiers in it! Thank you again for all your support!!! Semper FI

Re: Care packages / Christmas 2009!!

Please help me with this. For some reason collecting funds to send goodies for the Marines has been TOUGH to say the least.

Here is a cheap and thoughtful way to say- THANK YOU.

I request that you choose one Marine from the list below and send him a Christmas card. I am sure it will mean allot to them.

            Thanks

            From: SgtMaj Cully 10/15/2009
I Received your information from SgtMaj Booth. Thanks for the support. I have about 12 Marines who will be in country for up to one year. I was hoping your organization could support these young Marines during the Holidays. All the Marines are not married and will be here in country during the holidays. The Marines have the same mailing address as me (above) All the Marines listed are from MWCS-28. Thank you once again. Semper Fi

This is from SgtMaj Kufchak M.L., USMC -

              Ladies and Gentlemen,

I wanted to take this opportunity to Personally “Thank” each and every one of you, on behalf of myself and Colonel Randall Newman who are fortunate enough to be apart of this magnificent team we refer to as the Regimental Combat Team – 7. Each and Everyone of you have taken time from your very own valuable lives to support us individually or by organization for the upcoming Holiday Season. And we certainly appreciate it! I have enclosed some photos of the final product of repacking everything you sent to me into what we call Tri-Walls (White Boxes) Each one of those Boxes weights in excess of some 400 lbs and all 12 Boxes are filled side to side and bottom to top, before I sealed them up to be shipped off to the Marines and Sailors of the Regimental Combat Team. Total Weight of Gifts, Goods, Stockings, Love and Hugs, exceeded some 5000 lbs. The Warriors will be excited to get and receive all that you sent to them. It’s nice to know that they will find more than Guns and Ammo under the X-Mas tree this year. We Love You All. SgtMaj Kufchak

P.S. All the fellas and (1) gal in the photo’s helped me pack all the boxes over the course of 2 Days. The Female is a former Marine, She is now a Civilian working still working for the Team.
