  • I need your opinions

I have a chance to buy this 1948 Chevrolet Fleetline as a project car and I would like your opinions on whether I should undertake this project or not. I am pretty handy at fixing things plus I have friends that can help with the mechanical as well as the body work & painting. This would be a retirement project as I am planning on retiring next spring. They are asking $4000.00 for it but I am hoping to get them down to $3000.00. It shows 77,000 miles on the odometer and I do not know if it has turned over or not. It runs and belongs to the owner of a Chevrolet dealership in the Ft. Wayne area. Below are some pictures, so look and give me your opinion.

    Thanks for looking.

I don't know about the cost. But I'd dive at the chance to do a vehicle like that.

      Great to see the outcome.

I would steam clean that interior for sure!!!!!!!!!

Maybe before buying it, you and your friends could check the car out to see what they think about it and you'll have a better opinion, good luck

Man, all that REAL wood on the interior it awesome! And the fan on the steering wheel just ROCKS! You can go along way with the exsisting paint and interior. Wouldn't be perfect, but I can definitly see some potential there.

                Re: I need your opinions

Are you restoring it to sell or keep? The reason I ask is that if you will need to research the current collector's prices to see if a full restoration is a worth while investment. If it is to be in your collection, then have at it. Also, how difficult is it to obtain parts? (Obviously 1950's Chevy's are fairly easy to get new parts or specialized parts from dedicated suppliers, I'm not sure about earlier Chevys)

I would go for it. There seems to be a lot of potential there.

I don't think that is wood. I think that is like a decal or onlay or something. And unless that fan a factory accessory that will be one of the first things to go.

The interior scares me. But I bet with some elbow grease and time and money it could be a fun project and a fun ride to see coming down the street.

I am planning on keeping it. I checked out the internet and there are places to get parts for older Chevys. The parts are probably not cheap, but the fact that I am doing it myself helps justify the cost plus it will keep me busy after I retire.
