For me, my favorite bird hands down is the A-10 Thunderbolt....aka the Warthog! Seeing that bad boy in action gives me the warm and fuzzies each and every time! That bad boy can dish out some serious pain......and take it too.

I always liked the F-14 Tomcat (not because of Top Gun either!), very good plane for it's time.

The F-18 is a great plane and they are sure awesome!

                  Re: Hey, john m.!!!

My favorite fighter of all time is the F14 Tomcat. The Corvette of the skies! Swing wings, twin engines, an arsenal of weapons that made it the 2nd deadliest carrier-based weapon system (the 1st being the carrier itself). I fell in love with that fighter when I was in MCJROTC in high school. During spring break in 1978, our JROTC class was invited to spend the week at MCAS Yuma. The F14's were just being phased in to replace the venerable F4 Phantom as the Navy's main fighter and fleet defender.

2 F14's sat on the tarmac gleaming in the Yuma sun, brought in for combat range testing. A Phantom driver (F4 pilot) remarked witth pure admiration that the Tomcat looked like a Corvette with wings. The image always stuck with me. Two years later, it was the sci-fi movie "Final Countdown" (not Top gun) that forever cemented the F14 as my favorite all-time superiority fighter.

Yes, high quality kits from companies like Airfix, Tamiya, Italeri, Hasegawa and Revell are still available.

Yes. The A-10 was designed from the ground up (well, technically, from the gun out) specifically for close air support against armor.

Having analyzed the huge effectiveness of attack aircraft like the Junkers Ju 87 Stuka, Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik and Republic P-47 Thunderbolt against tanks, US military planners felt they needed a modern version to deal with armored threats.

Appropriately, Fairchild Republic, creators of the A-10, named it Thunderbolt II after it’s spiritual predecessor and their most successful earlier fighter, the P-47 Thunderbolt. Perhaps even more appropriately, air crews never refer to either aircraft by its given name, affectionately calling the A-10, “Warthog” and the P-47, “Jug.”

(Unlike other “flying tanks” of WWII, the P-47 was also extremely successful in air-to-air combat.)

I think they clean these planes with a special type of cleaner that avoids static electricty. This type of cleaner costs over $1,000 a gallon to the public. !!!
