I find it interesting that someone uses the two bucket method and grit guards yet is tempted to use a grout sponge.
The two bucket method and grit guards are efforts to reduce swirls (many can get by without them).
I am not saying a grout sponge is unsafe but many do extra things for safety and then do something is contrary to generally agreed as safe swirl prevention practices.

You sure do assume alot, then takeoff with your own presumptions from there.
I never said anything about grit guards nor did I say I was tempted to use a sponge. I just asked question. "I wouldn't do it" would have sufficed.

Now I am sure no one in here intends to post an additional post with any type of angry or demeaning tone, but since I am here I figured I would remind everyone that we don't bash people here on MOL and we intend to keep it that way
No need for the personal jabs, guys. No need at all.
Back to your regularly scheduled posting on DETAILING without negativity please.
I tried the proline grout sponges you can get at Lowe's. At less than $2 each I figured it would be a cheap experiment. I found they have more "bite" than my softer wash mitts. Great for removing dirt but I can't get over the feeling that all the dirt it removes is sitting right on the surface of the sponge, ready to marr up my paint. I feel more comfortable with my plush microfiber wash mitts. It might just be paranoia who knows. I'll stick with wash mitts.
I usually use the cheap bone sponges from autozone...I think they're like 3/$5 or something wicked cheap like that. They work fine on cars with hard paint/are reasonably clean, but I use a microfiber mitt on my Porsche - but only until I can get a natural sea sponge - I've used them in the past and they are THE best way to go for swirl prevention because the surface is so convoluted and absorbent. Natural Lambswool mitts are a close second to the sea sponge.
If a tree falls in the forest and there's nobody there to record the event, how can you be certain that there was a tree or even a forest to begin with?
I used to use car wash sponges a lot, but I always managed to miss a few spots with them, plus I believe they trapped some fine grit and scratched the finish too.
Some of the guys swear by grout sponges, but in my own personal opinion, there are better choices than a sponge.
I'am using sponge in cleaning my ride, as of now i didn't experience any thing bad using it, it's safe to use sponge but make sure before you use it you need to clean it because sponge is prone to tiny "rocks" and it can cause scratches to your car,
