Re: Beware of passing 18 wheelers

I was behind a log truck (two cars back) and saw one blow..I got a bit of debris tossed my way but nothing to do any damage.

I think Retread are legal in most cases, just not on the fronts and on certain rigs like maybe dump trucks and those carrying haz-mat

I don't think this was a retread. I've seen retreads come apart on the highway and they mostly just disintegrate. This tire, based upon what I saw and what the driver described, blew out most likely from pressure or puncture.

Two things I never do is tailgate a truck and sit beside them on the highway. Being a trucker in the military I know first hand how things can go from peachy to ohh !#$@ in a heartbeat.

I've seen more accidents caused by idiot drivers where the trucker gets blamed, maybe this section isn't covered well enough in drivers ed.

sounds like there was a fault with the tire.Possibly had a bulge and/or was overinflated.I've seen tires explode because of this.different from retreads breakups.
