  • Ice Road Truckers

You guys got to check this out...

Be sure to follow-up some more of the series at the History Channel.

I guess you Canadians know all about this, but it's a first for me. One of the truckers hails from 2HotFord's locale.

Man, it takes guts to do what these guys do.

I love that show and Deadliest Catch.

Those guys have a lot of guts to do what they do to drive over the ocean!!!

I agree with aaron. This and dealiest catch are my favorite shows. To do what these truckers do. The way it is just another day at the office for them. It is unreal.

        wicked artist renderings:

It might seem scary and all, but it is actually not that dangerous. There are close calls, but truckers driving on isolated ice fields are generally safer than, say, a woman riding a bicycle in New York City.

I think the truckers have the best of conditions. However, I feel for the guys that pave the way for them. One snowplow broke through the ice and sunk 285 ft to the bottom of a lake.

In the Canadian ice roads I agree. But this seasons deriving on the Alaskan Dalton HWY> with the varied challenges it offers is a whole new ballgame.

              Right.

I should have mentioned the Canadian ice truckers in my statement.

Great show. They're coming out with a new one called Extreme Logging I think. It's a mix of Swamp Loggers and Ice Road Truckers.

I am definitely addicted to the show. I have a Commercial driver's license (not active right now) and know just how difficult it is to drive on normal roads. These drivers are at a whole new level than me.

I can't get over how the ice road flexes as the trucks pass over it.

You'd think that 30 to 40 inches of solid ice would be stiff.

                      Re: Ice Road Truckers

I work in a transportcompany (transportcoordinator) and we drive salmon from northern parts of Norway (Lofoten, Alta, Hammerfest) to Finland 24/7.

Summertime is ok but winter is quite extreme sometimes. Worsest can be snowstorm and over 6 feet snow. Sometimes wind is so bad that trucks are collected into convoy to get through and you need wait from few hours to 2 days storm calm down that convoy can start.

All trucks have auxliarity heaters (webasto, ebersprächer), tv+dvd, micro and GPS-systems. I don't understand why in North America truck drivers don't use extra high-beams? Our trucks have xenon driving lights+4-8 extra high beams (usually xenons)

check out from google lightforce and you'll understand what prhase turning night into day means

                        Re: Ice Road Truckers

In North America, we are tough. No DVD + TV to play Cinderella or microwave to heat up organic vegetables.

high beams are extremely illegal in almost all states and provinces... whats worse is that there are cases where people get murdered by other commuters for using high beams.

And it's nice to have fridge, micro and coffeemaker in a truck when you're middle of nowhere. And it's even better to have them if you're going to Russia...you'll never know about their custom. It might take 10 minutes or a week to get over depending mood of the customofficers.

I had -02 Passat with oem bixenons (D2S+H7) with Bosch Rallye 175 highbeams with 35w xenons. If you count that 35w xenons lights as much as 250w halogen I had 4x250w+2x55w=1110w halogenlight on highbeams

It was nice see 1/2 mile ahead
