    Re: Other guilty pleasures?

I used to be BIG into paintball, I have about 5 markers around, 3 masks, tons of jerseys and Dye pants, multiple barrels (or modular) for each marker...I stopped being able to afford to play when all the fields around here jacked their prices up about 4 years ago - $140 a case for paint and it's FPO? Are you freaking kidding me?
When my friend lost his job at the field he worked at, we could no longer afford to play.
Now I use my HPA tank to inflate my tires at the drag strip at the end of the night.

My other indulgences are Telemark Skiing, Alpine Snowboarding, hiking, backpacking, Halo 3 on LIVE, going to school full time for pre-med (4.0 last semester FTMFW!), and taking care of my newborn son. And certain non-family friendly things more in keeping with the "guilty pleasure" thread title that won't be mentioned here.

I also really enjoy the ancient art of Bonsai. I've got a northern maple sapling that I'm starting to train and also a small Juniper that I bought as a big ugly shrub from home depot and trained it into this:

It's a terrible picture and doesn't really portray the beauty of the tree. It's living outside on my deck now while it recovers from the initial training.
If a tree falls in the forest and there's nobody there to record the event, how can you be certain that there was a tree or even a forest to begin with?

That is actually pretty dang cool! You can do that to any tree? (shrub too, if that's what it is?)

I guess mine would be track days.

Nothing like 8 hours cleaning the car leaving a beautiful finish, then taking it to the track and tear it up.

Then at the track, go off track due to some grease on the brakes, flinging dirt and debris all over the car.

Then it starts to rain, and the grime and rubber of other cars gets the car dirtier.

Then go home, and detail it again.

Detailers clean places nobody see. Detailer see's things nobody else see. But if you ask a Detailer to see how a dress looks on a woman, they are blind.

You can do it with pretty much any woody plant. I know of people that have Bonsai Rosemary plants that they keep.
My favorite is Bonsai Japanese Fire Maple...they look absolutely stunning.
Contrary to popular belief, Bonsai isn't the art of making plants look unnatural, it's the art of Dwarfing a plant successfully, and making the tree look much older than it actually is (though there are many bonsai that are over a hundred years old!).
            This is a Chinese Elm:

A wild Chinese elm stands between 40-100+ feet tall, and has a spread of about 50 feet. The one pictured above is about 30" tall, but looks just like a full-size natural tree of the same species. It's an excellent example of the art of Bonsai.

The Juniper that I have would normally have been used in landscaping, most likely as a ground cover like you see very often. But it's a woody plant with a solid trunk, so you can grow it as Bonsai.

I'm really just getting into it, I find it nice to create a living work of art. It's nice to sit back and admire the hardiness of the plant you're growing.
www.bonsai4me.com is a great site to look at for pictures of Bonsai and also articles on how to get into it, should you become interested.

That is pretty sweet. Never knew what bonsai was, other than small plants they sell in Asian stores.
NOTE: Post count does not reflect actual detailing knowledge.

In the bonsai community, those are actually known as Mallsai lol. They tend to die quickly because people assume that since the plant is sold indoors and doesn't look like a real tree, it doesn't need real tree things - sunlight, fresh air, seasons, etc. Combine that with the fact that many of them have lived indoors for years up to the point that they're sold, and things don't look good for them. They can live for a long time if properly cared for though. One guy on a different site bought a mallsai like 15 years ago and now it's doing great. Junipers are hardy little plants.

Once you have succeeded in dwarfing a tree, is that the end of trimming it?

As requested. Nothing special, it's my workhorse. But I try to take care of it though like all my vehicles.

Actually we have to tow my brother's 350z to carshows and such, as it's extremely loud, twin turbo, no cats, tuned only for 100 octane, and makes 500whp on a dynojet.

Sorry for going too off topic, back to "Other guilty pleasures"

Besides detailing my rides I love to detail my lawn. I try to make it look perfect and even add the cross hatches in like a big league field.

Something that is dear to my heart is high school marching band. Some of you may have done this at football games and pep bands but this is something a little different. My high school was very competitive with the overall goal in winning the Bands of America National Championship. The first round consists of 100+ bands. The top performing bands 30 something perform again where the top 12 are selected for the finals where the overall champion is selected. It is amazing performing in front of 40,000 people at the RCA Dome and now LucasOil Field in Indianappolis.

Our year began before school started every year before school started in 100+ degree Oklahoma August heat for eight hours a day. We work hard to the edge, and shed many tears, blood, and sweat. (Yes blood, got some good stories about that.) Our band is numerous time state champions, regional champions, regional finalists, national finalists, and one time national champions. Here are a couple sites to visit.

They even made a documentary of us during the 2002 season called the Pride of Broken Arrow. This is the trailer for it.

A video made after we won the 2006 National Championship.

A few videos of some of our shows.
