fill a bucket full of water and dish soap and agitate with a terry cloth and toothbrush.

Thanks for the replies, Nick and CieraSL.

I clean my just with a terry towel, and put the towel underneath the applicator, then push down. The stuff comes out and then repeat a few times, then wipe up around the plastic.
