  • Why?

    Gang,

    EDITED.

It can't come down to this at all.....

Mike left to do more of what he loves to do, his position here has reached an impasse and we as adults need to grow up and act like adults and I'm not pointing the finger at anyone.

    Detail Forums: Detailing Stuff

Break Room: Not Detailing stuff and pointless stuff to some, cherished writing to others!

I don't know, the threads have gone down and bickering here and there but dangnabit.....

Our Mods, Andy and Mark (with a little Tim thrown in there) are doing the best they can to moderate. They have jobs and other things to do and can't be on here 24/7.

We all need to grow up and help each other. Most the hardcore members knows a thing or two about detailing, let's help each other and encourage each other. I hang out on the break room as much as the other forums.

    Let's have fun!

If Mike were here, we would not be doing this, why would we want to do this when he is not here, jr high stuff.....he would be ashamed of us really, people would be banned and threads closed and moved to the secret Area 51 forum for Moderators. At least I would be.....

Anyways......I'm not pointing fingers at anyone and I'm not bashing the original person who did the above quote, just acting on what he said.....

As far as not as much detailing threads.....we may all just be waiting for our new Adminstrator to step in and start answering threads and I'm sure that Meguiar's is searching and will have someone for us quickly.

I'm not on as much, not because Mike left, but I've been working overtime lately as our wonderful state of California is broke and we laid off 5 Correctional Deputies whom, I have more years on than the 5 of them combined and make twice as much as the lowest paid guy when I work overtime, makes sense, I work overtime and make as much as two part time employees on straight time. Oh well, money in my pocket for more Meguiar's .

And...it's been raining off and on and haven't been able to do any detailing! Washed the cars a few times and vacuuming the interior and applying M40 a couple of times but that's about it. I did get the W68 and W68DA backing plates and can't wait to try them out....maybe tommorow!

I do have 2 details lined out the next month or two and can't wait.

    In the meantime....

    Peace Out.

    Aaron

    Re: Why?

    I don't mind tossing 1/2 a cent in....

It was always nice to have an official Meguiars recommendation after a few posts in a thread, and Mike was very quick (quicker than he should be). They have been going on a little longer recently with out the re-inforcement, getting much more varying opinion in on what to do for different situations. And that can be confusing for some people.

Now, there is nothing wrong with varying opinions (and very little has been bickering), esp from those with more experience, different machines, and especially from other countries where products are more varied.

But, having a basic, uniform plan of attack for a person to follow is also important.

And this forum does feed off new members asking questions to keep a lot of the discussion new and helpful.

      Re: Why?

The rules of the forum have not changed. Period.

If people are breaking the rules they will be disciplined exactly the same as if Mike was here.

The meaningless posts don't change the value of the site, because as you pointed out, they are in the Break Room.

MOL is undergoing a transition, and obviously there is going to be a short lull as Meguiar's locates a new administrator, but it no way does that mean MOL has lost a step.

MOL has always been great because of the incredibly strong community, and even if we have lost a huge part of that community in Mike Phillips, the community itself will continue to thrive.

Just stay positive and we can all do our part to come together to keep the forum going strong. There is not a single doubt in my mind that MOL will continue to succeed and grow in many ways.

The 'Break Room' is precisely that.People are entitled to talk about what they like as long as it's not against the rules.I like a bit of humour,as do others.Age groups vary quite a bit here aswell. All I would say is,if you don't like the humour, you don't have to participate in the post.

I put in a post last week to hear others experiences in quitting habits.I got good advice and suggestions from the other members, which has helped me a lot.

This past week,D101 has been a bit slow...? I don't know why?..Maybe a lot of people are on holidays at the moment? But I don't think it has anything to do with the departure of Mike Phillips. It's still a great forum!

            Re: Why?

I can kinda see what you mean as it has been a little different and maybe a bit more argumentative, but its not bad at all. I have seen a lot lot worse on other forums.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

            I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
            Remove swirls my friends.

              Hi all,

We all thought there might be a small bump in the road since Mike left, but we believe MOL is moving along very nicely under the circumstances.

That said, the Mods and many others, including people behind the scenes, have been working extra hard during this time to ensure the proper environment is maintained as well as proper information is being posted.

In addition, the entire MOL community has helped keep it smooth during this transition time. For that, we must say thank you to everyone !

While we are aggressively looking to fill Mike's position, we continue to ask that everyone keep in mind the situation, and continue to keep MOL what it is known for...A family friendly environment where good honest information about detailing, and a few other topics, is shared

Thanks again to the entire MOL community and lets all remember what Mike said before he left....

                  Re: Why?

Well, I for one need MOL. No, seriously, I'm MOL dependent. I'll suffer a breakdown if I don't get my daily MOL. That being said, I think it is ultra important that we maintain the friendly and helpful atmosphere of this wonderful forum that we have all come to love. If MOL were to become like other forums, then it wouldn't be MOL anymore, and I would really hate to see that happen. So, let's all remember to keep MOL clean, family-friendly, and informative.

                    Re: Why?

I could multi quote this thread but I won't. The thing is, we knew this wasn't going to be easy. I said it before and I'll say it again, MeguiarsOnline is not one person. MOL is not Mike Phillips, not Mike Pennington, nor many others who have been mentioned here. While I do agree that some of the threads lately have been a little out there, they have not broken any rules. I continually read a few of them everytime I log on. Like Mark said, the rules have not changed and will be enforced just as if Mike was still here.

MOL is a community of people who like to detail cars. It is the most friendly forum on the net, and I try to keep it that way with a lot of help behind the scenes. There are so many people involved in this forum, spending countless hours behind the keyboard reading posts and watching threads, removing spammers before you guys even see them. Kudos to everyone involved.

Let's remember that this is a community. We are all like the nosey neighbor who comes over and wants to see what you are doing to your car. Lets keep helping each other.

                          Amen.

We have too many hardcore members who are artists and it's been fun watching them go from "What's a clay bar" to putting up some wetsanding and polishing threads that I would not do without proper guidance from about 12 Meguiar's employees.

To add, my original post was edited which is perfectly fine. I just merrily put a quote up that another member had said and it made me mad that it came to that point for a member to say it and I wasn't bashing the member with the quote in the least, I wanted to show what was said and what that member's outlook was showing at the moment and how he/she was effected by what he/she was seeing......not bash him/her.

Frankly, it would be better to delete this thread and/or move it to the Area 51 forum for you mods.

Anyways, Thanks for letting me blow up on you all in the original post. It has been stressful at work with 5 of us being laid off, my friends and I go to happy places to get away (besides God and my family of course) and I think I lost it......

What is a spammer on a forum? Is it someone entering the forum just for the purpose of advertising something?

It's not something I know much about.

Yes. Behind the scenes, when a new member posts, the mods can see it via the forum control panel. We see it before it hits the forum. I am sure you have probably seen 1 or 2 that has slipped by us. People selling everything from sneakers to medication, etc. But as soon as we see it the new member is banned and the post is moved into the moderators forum, or as Aaron put it, Area 51!!!! LOL
