I kind of agree with the above. Parents can teach us how NOT to be too. (You know how it feels like to be treated like he treated you and won't do it to your kids.)

He is also giving you the opportunity to learn how to deal with people with respect. If he continues his bad behavior, you may decide that the only way you can respectfully deal with him is to stay away until he can do likewise.

The $20 may be an "I am sorry". Sometimes people try to pull us down because they don't what us to make them look small. Your dad may get his pleasure from a bottle, you get yours from the art of polishing. He can't say I was wrong. Teach he how to forgive. It doesn't mean taking abuse.
Sorry if this seems like lecture, I feel for you and thank you for letting me vent.

          Re: dad killed my love

I wish I could help. I do understand what you are going through--my father was the same way (without the drinking). It was not until I was able to get a job and move out that was able to stop the abuse. I also got married 6 mths after I moved out--and still been married for 17 years.

My suggestion is to take the $20 and do the car. This is his way of trying to apologize. Also, you need to forgive him--if not for him, for yourself. Whether you go into the military or find a job and move out--get OUT! No one deserves that kind of abuse. In time, hopefully you can move beyond what is going on now, and have a healthy father-son relationship. It took several years, but I was able to do that and now have a good father-son relationship with my dad. I hope you understand and I hope I have been able to help, some.

Guys, I had to edit a couple posts with loads of asterisks. Although the forum edits some of the foul language automatically, we still prefer you avoid using the words since someone reading the censored version can still infer the foul language.

              Thank you.

I think you should do the car for the $20.00. Try to get a job and move out.

                  Re: dad killed my love

Bulli, Sorry to read your post. There is some really good advice in the replies to it. Not much a man needs other than a straight shot at life and some love. You're a man now at 19, and you need to fight the fight needed to get the shot at life you deserve. That fight isn't with your Dad but in the big world that we live in. You chase your own life dreams and the rest will follow. I know that there is a lot of fear and unknowns -- I ran away from home at 16 myself. I didn't join the military 'cause it wasn't me but my cousin did and I am sure that it helped him. I know it taught him a lot of self respect and his own value! Don't push the suggestion of 'Superior Shine' aside too fast - I've worked with a lot of ex military guys who gained great skills in the services that made a basis for careers that they could not have gotten into because they didn't do well at high school etc. but they learned in the forces.

I am only on this site to 'wax on and wax off' but I feel for you as I imagine the people who responded to you post do too. Read the posts and read them again and between the lines.

Like I've said...the n00bs don't read the dates. How they find them though is beyond me.
